I remember the days of lazy childhood
Devoid of adult pressures and complexities
When playing, sleeping and eating were
The gods I worshiped.
Those were the days of innocence
When life was a naive picture
Of friends, family and neigbours.
Oh, those were the days I needn't worry
About what to eat, wear and where to
Sleep because mum and dad were in charge.
But I wouldn't go back to those days
Because now I know better than that
Because a child's innocent world is
A myopic vision of heaven on earth!
Today, I am faced with the brutal fact that
Life is wicked and that bad things happen
To good people and life is not always
Black and white and heaven on earth means
Carrying my heavy cross in self-denial
And following God in a lonely path.
Playing, sleeping and eating come
At a great price.Life isn't a one-way track
To personal glory but a trudge uphill
From Golgotha to Jerusalem!
Yes, I remember those days
Of innocent happy childhood!
