The danger of the media misinforming the public has always been a talking point, this is even more important in the age of Social Media where (mis)information travel at the speed of thought and editorial guidelines are non-existent.

The newspaper cut-out above shows a hopeful but misguided information on the fate of passengers on the ill-fated ship, Titanic.

“Wireless messages state that no lives have been lost on the damaged vessel,” it assures.

The reality is that the British passenger liner sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 2012 after colliding with an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton UK to New York City in the United Stated of America and the sinking caused the death of 1,502 people and remains one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in modern history.

101 years later, the danger of misinformation still plagues the media world with no signs of abating.
