You shouldn't worry about that too much. Those new luxuary cruise ships are properly designed with enough security in mind. Do not forget that, if something like that were to sink nowadays, the insurance claims alone would complete bankrupt the owner/operator of the ship

Now that would be a useless thing to do. Once you hit the cold water, you have about 5 min max. Swimming won't do you much good

They are not fictitious. Jack, rose and titanic actually existed in 1912 (i guess)
