Although d successful arrest of d Boston bombers marked a victory over internal terrorism in d US, it opens a new vista for reflection given d nigeria scenario. D swift reaction of Obama demonstrated leadership. His speech was not a condolence message but an assurance to d citizens that govt remains Committed to its mandate. Govt carried out its primary role when security forces were deployed to hunt down d perpetrators. But they wouldn't have succeeded without public co-operation. First, d CCTV that captured d images of d suspects was privately owned, but practically set d tone for further investigation. Secondly, d arrest of s suspect was made possible by a vigilant resident of watertown who saw blood dripping from a bath around his neighborhood and invited security agencies. The cooperation of resident when d town was shut down, and house to house search was conducted was also very important. In effect, security/safety can only be achieved in a society when there is a strong partnership btw security forces and d public. We can only collaborate as a people if we become more vigilant and draw d attention of security agents to suspicion in our neighborhood.
