[quote author=Avenir]I suddenly received transaction alert email from Access Bank today (I assumed previous ones have gone to spam email) and found out that since January, Access Bank has been taking 400 naira (200 naira twice a month) from my account as a service charge and also taking 10 naira every month as VAT.

I didn't understand these debit charges because the account is not a current account and there has been no transaction on the account (no debit card, no passbook issue, no withdrawal, no payment, etc) since Access Bank took over the account from Intercontinental. I can't recall being advised that my account has turned to a monthly fee paying account and I don't know why I need to pay VAT every month when I have not bought anything.

I sent an email to access bank and they replied tersely that it is their new annual charge of 200 naira. However, this is not an annual charge on my account as my account is hit 3 times a month with a total of 410 naira in charges. Moreover, I have not previously been advised about the introduction of an annual charge.

Is any other person being hit with these charges? Is this the new banking system in Nigeria? Is this specific to accounts taken over

make it dormant, i did it. i don't complain twice, dont let them take you for a full

I'm not the only one. Had N2500 in the former intercontinental bank which became dormant. Got a text three months ago that I had N1420 balance remaining. An account with no transaction for the past 3 years, no ATM, nothing. Since I got the text I get a monthly deduction of N200. I can't even remember the account number.

That bank is the most useless bank in Nigeria. They debit your account for very dubious charges and again, their Internet banking is hopeless.I really miss IBPLC.One can imagine Aig as CBN governor.

I was happy with intercontenental bank (okpara avenue) until they migrate to Access bank, and since then, the story changed.

Every month, they deduct 100 naira from my account.
If i withdraw any amount, they will withdraw 1,000 naira for themselves.

Four times every day, they will send texts to me, thereby kidnapping 40 naira per day from my account.

All my complaint to thier costumer care fell on deaf ears because they are always ready for an answer even before the question comes
Now what i did was to withdrew my money and left 1,000 naira minimum deposit and Ben johnsoned.

I'm now banking with Unity bank (ogui road, before stadium) and they are God's sent.

Those regulating banking transactions in nigeria should urgently look into this before it becomes a tradition.

i've moved my salary account from there and almost emptied the account. They sent plenty harassing text messages followed by this preposterous email you talked about. I go soon close the account. Unless they agree to give me a loan on generous terms. Lol.

CFCfan: Access bank has access to customers' money, so it may be true that they steal the money.

But they (Access Bank) have to have a stronger fidelity to their customers, just like Fidelity Bank.

If they show such fidelity, their profitability will reach the skies, just like Skye Bank.

With such huge profits, they will reach the zenith of their financial environment, just like Zenith Bank.

I also had an experience with them a week ago, as I withdrew a thousand naira from their ATM machine, which turned out to be a fake, and when I tried to return the money, but it wasn't accepted. And that was how I lost a thousand naira to access bank.
