Meet Italy's First Female Black Cabinet Minister. by waleadex(m): 10:06am On May 02, 2013
Cecile Kyenge, 48, has become Italy's first black cabinet minister in a sure sign that the rest of Europe is slowly catching up with Britain and France. Her appointment has been hailed as a giant step forward for racial integration in a country that has long been ill at ease with its growing immigrant classes.

However, Kyenge's appointment is not welcome by everyone. One politician from a party that not long ago ruled in a coalition derided what he called Italy's new ‘bonga bonga government.’

On Wednesday, amid increasing revulsion over the reaction, the government authorised an investigation into neo-fascist websites whose members called Kyenge Congolese monkey and other epithets. Kyenge was born in Congo and moved to Italy three decades ago to study medicine. An eye surgeon, she lives in Modena with her Italian husband and two children.

She was active in local center-left politics before winning a seat in the lower Chamber of Deputies in February elections. Premier Enrico Letta tapped Kyenge to be minister of integration in his hybrid center-left and center-right government that won its second vote of confidence on Tuesday.

Very welcome development in such a racist country like Italy.
Perhaps being married to an Italian helped?

There will always be dumb racists in Italy. Irrespective of how many decades she'd spent and the family ties she'd developed in that country.

Not that they are the only guilty ones.

I wonder how we'd react if one Asamoah, Kweku or Boateng was appointed to Nigeria's Federal cabinet. smiley

Is I the 1st to C? grin It is not a small tins. Chai No 2. Getting there. smiley

This is an amazing accomplishment for her - for a racist country like Italy. I'm very impressed and I hope she does very well in office. And kudos to those who voted her in as well. Been to Modena and they have a decent amount of black folk there so that must've helped but no doubt a lot of whites supported her for her to have gotten this far/high.

In France:

Christiane Taubira or Christiane Taubira-Delannon (French pronunciation: [kʁis.tjan to.bi.ʁa] ; born 2 February 1952, Cayenne, French Guiana) is a French politician who on 15 May 2012, was appointed Minister of Justice of France in the new Ayrault government under President François Hollande.

She studied at Pantheon-Assas University.[1]

Having served as president of her party Walwari, Taubira from 1993 served as a deputy at the French National Assembly, and was re-elected in 1997. Non-affiliated in 1993, she then voted for the investiture of the conservative Edouard Balladur cabinet of ministers in 1993. In 1994, she became a Member of the European Parliament (MEP),[2][3] being the fourth on the Énergie Radicale list led by Bernard Tapie. In June 1997, she then joined the Socialist Party (PS), and then-Prime Minister Lionel Jospin (PS) commissioned her for a report on gold search in Guiana.

Christiane Taubira was the driving force behind a 21 May 2001 law that recognises the Atlantic slave trade and slavery as a crime against humanity. In 2002, she was a Left Radical Party (PRG) candidate for the presidency, although she did not belong to the party. She gained 2.32% of the votes. After 2002, she became vice-president of the Left Radical Party. She was elected again as deputy on 16 June 2002, and joined the socialist group in the Assembly.

Member of European parliament: 1994-1999. Elected in 1994.

Member of the National Assembly of France for French Guiana (1st constituency): 1993-2012. Elected in 1993, reelected in 1997, 2002, 2007.

Regional councillor of French Guiana: Since 2010.

Her book ("Slavery explained to my daughter" ) has been criticized by editorialist Eric Zemmour for accusing only the white people of colonization.

Nominated Minister of Justice in the Jean-Marc Ayrault government following the victory of François Hollande at the 2012 Presidential election, she was supposed to work with Junior Minister Delphine Batho. However, their relationship quickly deteriorated and they never were able to share responsibilities. After the June 2012 Legislative elections, Delphine Batho was nominated Minister of Ecology to replace Nicole Bricq, leaving Christiane Taubira in charge of the Ministry.

Europe is gradually returning to Black Rule. The separation between Europe & Africa is just 7 km at the Strait of Gibraltar (between Morocco & Spain)
