If reports available to us are anything to go by, no fewer than 10 serving governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party may be on their way out of the ruling party to join APC.

A key member of the merger committee, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said that more than 10 PDP governors were interested in APC.

According to the source:

“Most of the PDP governors are tired of the crisis rocking the party. They are tired because PDP has failed them. The electorate are seeking an alternative and the only way for the governors to remain relevant is to move along with the people.

“More than 10 PDP governors have shown their interest in APC. It would be like a tsunami for PDP; it will shock the leadership of the party when its prominent members defect massively. Some of the governors are doing well as individuals in PDP but they have lost their interest in the party.

“Nigerians want an alternative, so are many members of the ruling party. I will not mention names or which parts of the country they are from but the PDP will shake when these prominent members of the party defect to APC.”

Some of the names mentioned include Rivers State Governor and Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Rotimi Amaechi; Niger State Governor and Chairman, Northern Governors’ Forum, Babangida Aliyu; Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State; Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State; Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State; Sule Lamido of Jigawa State; Seidu Dakingari of Kebbi State; and Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State.

The National Publicity Secretaries of CPC and ACN, Rotimi Fashakin and Lai Mohammed, respectively, however denied knowledge of the intending defectors. They however admitted that there was a “silent movement” of people into APC.

Fashakin said, “APC is becoming more of a mass movement. Just yesterday, the Movement for Democracy and Justice — the political party of M. D. Yusuf, a former inspector-general of police — came to CPC and said they were ready to merge with it.

“Why we are being silent on other groups that are coming into APC is not to unduly frighten PDP. It’s like the entire polity is shifting to the opposition. It is not just political parties; we also have political and civil society groups coming in.”

Similarly, Mohammed said, “We have a significant group from DPP and several other political associations and groups that have stated their resolve to be part of the merger.”

stop heating up the polity! let them join if they want to join - maybe that would even compel government to face its work knowing that if it doesnt perform a miracle, it will be kicked out!

as it is, all these threats will only make the presidency forget even more, about governance and face acrimonius politics to convince, threaten, coerce and manipulate everyone back to the status-quo!

The problem is not PDP OR APC, rather the problem is the politicians in PDP or APC. Even if the whole PDP governors moves to APC, the problem is still there.

This is the simplest kindergarten knowledge that is so hard for Nigerians to get. If OBJ or ~chris Uba joins APC today, they will so much celebrate them.

Some of the names the op mentioned are all northerners except Amaechi...this tells us that the battle is between the north and the south...apart from the fact that amaechi want to commit political suicide by dinning with those that killed his grandparents..their leaving the party is still for the purpose of political relevance and personal aggrandisement....

It is simple, play the spoiler's role and create day light between Nigeria and PDP. If these governors leave PDP, then GEJ's second term will be finally buried.

This is where you are wrong. The fact remains that so many politicians with good intention to govern and leave good legacy of development and prosperity for their people have been frustrated by the hard core criminals who have hijacked PDP and made it a den of robbers.

Go check how ACN have dealt with hitherto disgruntled PDP politicians in South West and most especially Edo State. Many of them have been reformed and made to realize that politics has a reward if you do what is right for the people.

If any governor leaves the PDP for another party, he automatically looses his seat! This is the position of the electoral Act (as amended)
An elected govt official can only leave his party to another successfully, if there is internal problem within the party. As far as I know Tukur is still the PDP national chairman and there is no faction whatsoever within the party.
These governors, I believe, are aware of this fact.

There should be a 'Comedy Section' here, this type of thread will surely fits in there! I wonder how the exodus of these clownish governors to APC will stop my Jonathan from cruising through from 2015 to 2019!

Let us see how this ends. They better leave instead of continually wrecking havoc and anti-party activities which is one of the mission of some of the northern governors. People have failed to understand that irrespective of political parties that the northern oligarchy have an ideology that other part of Nigeria are conquered hence power should rest on them. This power appears to have slipped off their hands with the present PDP structure hence the formation of APC. These governors are secretly sympathetic to that born to rule ideology and will directly or indirectly support anything that will return power to their kinsmen so they continue squandering the commonwealth of the Niger deltans and other southern minorities. I may understand Tinubu's position but for Amaechi, I pity him because he has ostracized himself for good, hence soon will be understand what injustice he has melted on himself.
