Logicboy03: Yes or no?roflmao islam d religion of peace indeed.well religion hav done d country both good and bad but it wont be right to place our woes on religion cos its people and individuals dat makes religion and dey are d good and bad of a religion just as boko haram, jambs etc makes islam look bad and dey are just nigerians so also are christian extremist threathening people with hell fairytales and so on.so even without religion in dis country we would still hav d problems facing us as a country.its our overbearing attitude to religious matter dat makes it bad and being a source of problem for d country. |

Nope The root cause of the problem we have in Nigeria today is Religion. From political, educational, economical, security, etc are stems and branches of rooted RELIGION. With religion, the country is divided into two. Northern-muslim and southern-christian. The political settings collapse. It hard for a christian to run some post in the north and muslim to run an office in some part of the east. People politically are not working together again. The northern people are predominantly illiterates. Their females marry mostly at teenage. They dont normally go to western school but prefer islamic school for themselves. The nations economy is sinking cuz the churches out there were the holy fraudsters and corrupt leaders stealing from people through tithes and zakat in the mosque. These are the people that rule the people at there door step so they got nothing to do with corrupt politicians since they will come to church for thankgiving the following sunday. Cecilia Ibru is a critical example. And on the issue of our security, we are very sure that the violence that erupt from tribalism and land dispute is minimal when compared with religion crisis. It bomb, gun and fire today and tomorrow. Every pages of the newspaper is religion wahala. To me, Religion is the basic and fundamental problem of this nation. ### I suggest will kick out this disease (religion) out of Africa 2 Likes |

#RespectMoney$:Nope, u're gettin it twisted; christianity didn't bring no civilization. the europeans who brought christianity, brought civilization. it's just like saying, civilization brought christianity Christianity has given Nigerians a million things to live for,and that is why nigerians can't get off their butts to work and make progress like other civilized societies; cos they rely on christianity, 419 preachers, endless prayers to help them do their living for them and the assurance of a final destination.if there's a heaven and hell, bet'ya it's gonna be the majority in hell for one of the most corrupt and fraudulent nations dat is naija; unless u're talking about the 70 virgins paradise/final destination of boko haram suicide bombers 2 Likes |

I will only speak for my religion which is Catholicism. It has largely been a positive force in Nigeria as it has always championed the cause of educating the nation by offering quality education at affordable charges. It has many hospitals and charitable homes/organisations attending to the sick and needy at little or NO cost at all. It has also been a consistent and relentless advocate for peace even in the face of unspeakable and barbaric provocation and persecution e.g Boko haram bombings. The central message of Catholicism is love. Love for God that translates to love of neighbour, including you. I don't see how one can consider that as negative. |

Re: Has Religion Been A Positive Force For Nigeria? by Nobody: 11:57am On May 07, 2013 |
Calculus12: Christianity asks people to be corrupt. -Does it not tell you not to be yoked with unbelievers? How does one govern fairly in a multi-religious country with such attitude? -Christianity in govt causes corruption and discrimination as the govt should be secular. That is why Redeemed camp can block federal roads during camp seasons. In a secular country that camp will be bankrupt from fines and lawsuits |

What was the original message of catholicism? Non-catholics = fake christians = hell. Hell is not a message of love. ============================================ Catholic church was involved in slavery. Remind how christianity came again to Nigeria? Catholic church has deep connections with government, hence them being corrupt in every country they are in. Take the catholic church in Delta getting millions in offerings from the govt. FOR WHAT? Catholic church watched and supported slavery in Nigeria/W-Africa for 300 yrs before bringing their education. The first catholic school came in the 19th century to Nigeria....whereas the catholic church had a presence since 16th century Futhermore, for every free thing the catholic church gives, it gets back in sixfold. They dont help for helping sake. The help to get converts. They had tax-free status and they even get donations apart from offerings. lets not even talk about the suffering and abuse of many children in catholic run charity homes and schools 1 Like |
Re: Has Religion Been A Positive Force For Nigeria? by italo: 1:25pm On May 07, 2013 |
Logicboy03: This is what YOU SAY the Church teaches. It is a lie, as usual. ============================================ Logicboy03: The Church could not have done anything to stop slavery just like it cannot do anything to stop the wars of today, despite its constant calls for peace. Tomorrow, you say "Catholics were involved in the wars" because they sent missionaries to war-torn countries. Common! Logicboy03:What exactly is their crime here? Logicboy03: Atheists have been living in Nigeria before Catholicism came. What schools, hospitals, orphanages etc have they established? Logicboy03: Random speculation, to put it politely. Logicboy03: Talk about the opportunity that Catholicism has given many motherless children, impoverished families etc. At least we have evidence of that. The "abuses" you don't have evidence of (correct me if I am wrong). |

italo: Lol....the catholic church did not just watch slavery; it preached it. It was in its canon b Pope Gregory IX in the 13th century. Even the previous pope has made apologies for slave trade http://www.crosswalk.com/789834/ Worse, it was not until the 19th century that the catholic church had a clear and official no nonsense stance against slavery. Shameful. italo: Smh.....heard of separation of church and state? Heard of fraud? italo: Actually, pagans. They had their local farming and herbs to treat people. Guess what? Catholicism was not the sole reason for schools and hospitals in Nigeria, please. Also read about Tai Solarin If there were any atheists they would be too few to eefect such societal change. italo: Would like to see catholic missionaries help without preaching the bible and help without beating their chests about their good faith like secular charities do. Even Jesus preached that charity had nothing to do with religion. The good samaritan. So when you people claim that catholicism or christianity is a good reason for charity, you are creating an ironical situation italo: We have evidence for abuse. http://www.vaticancrimes.us/2012/12/montreal-over-30-catholic-priests.html There are secular charities without abuse and without the religious nonsense of converting and brainwashing. |

Re: Has Religion Been A Positive Force For Nigeria? by italo: 2:25pm On May 07, 2013 |
Logicboy03: Lies and half truths. The Pope apologised for Christians that were involved in slave trade; who has apologized for the Atheists that were involved? Abi the Atheists are too few to apologize too? The Church never started, instigated or supported slavery. Logicboy03: What is the crime, brother? Logicboy03: Are they still too few to effect such change? How many Atheist charity homes are there? I don't know of even one. Do you? Logicboy03: Sorry, but Catholics don't exist to do what you would like to see. We exist to do what God would like to see. Logicboy03: I see you have deviated from talking about religion IN NIGERIA. |
Re: Has Religion Been A Positive Force For Nigeria? by Nobody: 2:49pm On May 07, 2013 |
Logicboy03: This is very funny LB, What exactly are you on about? That Nigeria's problems are caused by religion or not? If this is what you are talking about then let's have a list of some of the ish Nigeria has... 1) Corruption in all it's ramification 2) High rate of unemployment 3) High mortality rate 4) Unequal distribution of the wealth of the Nation i.e High rate of poverty. The above are some of the ish with our darling country Nigeria...now can you kindly point out where exactly has Christianity encouraged it's adherents to be the 'protagonist' of the above ills? |
Re: Has Religion Been A Positive Force For Nigeria? by Nobody: 3:16pm On May 07, 2013 |
striktlymi: 1) are tithe frauds and using govt money for offerins in killions not corruption? 2) good, the church employs people. Anti-abortion stance and anti-condoms = overpopulation that causes unemployment 3) anti-abortion stance and preaching against condoms = botched black market abortions, overpopulation, overcrowding...poor standards of living death n mortality 4) christianity causes acceptance of suffering in this life for pleasure in the next for many people: a glorification of unequal distribution of power and wealth. Gaddem.......they dont call me a dark knight of bashing christianity for nothing |
Re: Has Religion Been A Positive Force For Nigeria? by Nobody: 3:21pm On May 07, 2013 |
italo: Keep on the strong denial. Anyone denying the abuse and corruption in the catholic church must be a strong liar. You and ubenedictus will make good lawyers, you guys never get angry or shaken by criticisms of the catholic church......that is not the power of faith but faith powered dishonesty. Google for secular charities an cure your ignorance |
Re: Has Religion Been A Positive Force For Nigeria? by Nobody: 4:00pm On May 07, 2013 |
This is wonderful... Logicboy03: LB. what you have up there are stuff frowned at by Christianity...In the event that you do not know, fraudulent acts are frowned against by Christianity... An individual who decides to raise up a 'ponzi scheme' in the name of having a church is already at odds with Christianity; and one who steals in order to give money for offering already goes against the dictates of the gospel of Christ...one cannot rob Peter to pay Paul in this circumstance. There is a need to draw the line between wrongs committed by individuals and wrongs propagated by Christianity...The OP is clear enough...what is under the 'butchers knife' is religion (Christianity) and not the wrong application of it by adherents. Logicboy03: The logic you have up there is very flawed...anti-abortion stance and anti-condoms do not necessarily lead to overpopulation. This actually is fallacious because there are other ways of birth control which are not at odds with Christianity. Now to the ish of overpopulation...who told you that Nigeria is overpopulated? What you have up there is just an hypothetical situation...the reality on ground is that Nigeria is yet to attain full employment and when I say full employment, I am not just talking only in terms of our human resources... Far from it...I am talking about Capital employment...I am talking about full utilization of our natural resources...I am talking about Human Capital Development etc...in order to achieve this state of full employment and economic development, there is a need to ensure that the private sector becomes the engine of growth as against what we have at the moment...there is a need for the economy to be diversified...there is a need for sustainable development amongst other things... When we have moved from Economic growth to Economic development that is when we can truly say bye bye to poverty...all these are things we can achieve without religion stopping anyone and as a matter of fact these are things encouraged by Christianity...So Lb. when you talk about overpopulation note that Nigeria is far from being overpopulated... Logicboy03: Paul admonishes Christians to be hardworking...accepting ones state in life is far different from encouraging people to remain poor...Christianity is against folks being lazy...if one is hardworking and directs his hard-work in the right path, why will that person complain of food? There indeed is a need for you to understand what Christianity teaches as against what you want it to teach... 1 Like |
