There is too much focus on entertainers on the Celebrities board on Nairaland.
Entertainers may be the ones making the loudest noise, because they are the most talked about by their fans in music and movies and other forms of entertainment, but PLEASE, there are other celebrities outside entertainment.
Many members of Nairaland are celebrities even though they don't make so much fuss or buzz about their celebrity status.

Many posts come up every week on the same local celebrities in music and movies for nothing important or serious like all the monotonous posts on Tonto Dike, Nadia Buari, Yvonne Nelson, Rita Dominic, Ini Edo, Whizkid, 2Face and others.
Can we talk of celebrities who are doing more for the growth of Nigeria than these noisemakers?

What of outstanding Nigerians in corporate Nigeria like popular motivational speakers who are achievers and role models worthy of emulation; Fela Durotoye, CEO of Visible Impact and author of the bestselling book "17 Secrets of High Flying Students" and fast rising fellow Nairaland member and celebrity banker Darlington Onyeagoro, author of the controversial new book “It’s OK To Have A Bad Boss”, Kingsley Obiakor, UK based Kriss Akabusi, U.S. based Okey Ofili, Patricia Omoqui and others. What of award winning writers Teju Cole, E. E. Sule, the regional winner of the 2013 Commonwealth Book Prize and Commonwealth Short Story Prize and acting Editor of Sunday Punch, Miss Toyosi Ogunseye, winner of the Science Journalist of the Year (2012) prize of the Nigeria Academy of Science Awards. And lest we forget, the young geniuses Samantha and Kelechi Okere who won the Oklahoma City University Regional Science and Engineering Fairs awards for their invention of bio-fuel as natural alternative to fossil fuel.
There several others in other keenly contested and highly coveted occupations and professions doing awesome things for the common good.
Let us celebrate them!

Again, have you noticed there is tribal discrimination against Hausa celebrities. The news of E. E. Sule, who is one of the regional winners of the 2013 Commonwealth Book Prize has not made the front page, because they assume he must be Hausa and Muslim. But find out more about him on http://www.commonwealthwriters.org/cbp-regional-winners-2013/

Do not post false information or start conspiracies in regards to Nairaland please. There is only one moderator in the Literature Section. There's a good chance that he did not see the sole thread that was created on Sule Egya's victory. I just checked the "Endorse Topics To Make Frontpage" thread in Literature and found that no one recommended the thread. If you were aware of the thread and wanted it on the homepage, why didn't you bring it to the attention of the Literature mod or any mod for that matter?

Oh come one dude...cut me some slack here. Ogugua has given the possible explanation here. Do you really think I care if he is Muslim, Christian or worships Buggs Bunny? You could have at least made the complain on the complaints thread na.

This ain't cool, not one bit

The last post orikinla made is more of literature than celebrity section!

I agree with you that it isn't only performing artistes that are celebrities, politicians are also celebrities but it will be more befitting to post any thread on them in the politic section. Sportmen are also celeb, but it will be better to post thread on them in the sport section of the forum rather than the celebrity section. Likewise some other aspects of life in which the actors are widely celebrated.

I understand there are also some categories which have a kind of confusion in which section to place them, e.g the thread 'oga on top resumes in oyo state', i felt the thread should be rather placed in the celebrity section than the politic section cos the man is a celeb to me.

Well said. The term "celebrity" is a rather loose and general term. Sometimes, there are posts that are more befitting in sections other than the Celebrities section as posters in those other sections will appreciate the content more than amebors Celebrities frequenters. You gave great examples of that.

E.E Sule should have been at the top of the headlines on the homepage.

. A good step after some delay. May be we should be posting "the most beautiful Nigerian CEO", "sexiest Nigerian lecturer" or "Professor Karen King-Aribisala on the red carpet". I will post "Top 10 Sexiest Bankers" this month after selecting finalists of the beauty pageants for female bankers.
