This video is incredible. A number of discussions I have been involved in were touched on in it, including what heaven and hell are, the purpose of salvation and Christian behavior.

It's an amazing video and it has awoken me to things that I was losing sensitivity to. I hope it does you good.

It's about what follows salvation, about what we Christians are about and the purpose of life as a whole. For my atheist and other unbelieving friends, I think you might find some interesting stuff in it, not least what really hell is about. I know that most of you are particularly hung up on that.

I know what hell is about; its a place in your retarded puny brain.

There is nothing interesting about genocide, infanticide and human sacrifice.

Shoot, bro. As long as I'm where I am currently, I'm good for them. I should be here till maybe Monday. So quick, please. smiley

By the way, I finally listened to the NT Wright/James White exchange. It was...well, the word I used on the thread you started on it was "dynamite". I'm still subconsciously processing the whole thing but I was with Tom almost from his first word.

Mean to read the thread again and try to get more detailed material on the subject.

AFTER YOU BELLIEVE

The following are points I wrote as I listened to the speaker

1. The lecture/book is for Chrsitians AFTER they believe: the point is that have people really gotten to the point of faith in Christ? Are they truly born-again by the power of God alone? When we are right about that, then can we begin to talk about what must be done AFTER WE BELIEVE.

2.When he compares spontaniety to rules, he was not talking about the rules as stated in Moses' law: Paul talked of rules also in Ephesians, Colosians and Phillipians after discussing the great riches of God's grace. He mentions "appropriate spontaneity"; and I think I agree with him on that. There is no where in this man's message where he has said that Moses laws are any basis for Christian messages: he does not even say there are principles in them for us to follow. He only emphases that good works must follow faith, a submission that no grace advocate disputes on this forum (including shdemidemi - who can be on the extreme of it sometimes).

3. Nonetheless, messages that advocate Character or works, are always in danger of falling back into the old Judaistic thinking or simply following modern day doctrine of Morals, and they leave out the person of Christ. There is a reason why Paul started most of his great epistles with doctrinal positions on Jesus and the meaning of his death on the cross. The reason is that every moral, work, rule or law, that a so called Christian must bring forth must be founded upon Christ: the done work of Christ. If this is not so, then we resort to churning out good works (Hebrews calls them dead works, actually) only that we tend to glory in, and then gradually find authority in, which leads inevitably to the point of dictating to others what the rules and regulations they should follow also. And when they don't see eye to eye with us on this issues, we labels them antimonians.

4. "Chrisitan works doesnt come automatically", true. But the Spirit works in human lives and the miracle of that is what we call automatic. "The automatic working of the Spirit starts with our thinking, that is transformed to our actions, and that is seen as good works". In this I agree with the speaker.

5. "Love is not our duty but our destiny". We are saying the same thing.

6.He reminds us at the 34th minute that everything he is saying comes under "by grace alone, through faith alone..."; In this one I agree 100%.

7. "The fruits does not grow automatically. They must be cultivated."

8. It is obvious that the speaker does not like the 19th century Christian teaching that emphasise too much grace and less works; but what folks like him and those who support him do is that they go the other way round: they emphasise too much works and no grace. We all must agree that there must be a ballance. I however feel, that the scale tending more towards grace is safer; bc in the long run it is God we all must resort to help us.

9. My emphasis on the grace gospel is simply bc, unlike the enviroment the speaker is in (europe), Nigeria is a nation that is steeped in religious works and this has led to all sort of legalism and hypocrisy; so, if the grace gospel can be emphasized (while ballanced with works as the speaker says), we will return to apostolic Christian practise of faith.

10. I do not subscribe to his use of Plato or Aristostle as basis of teaching doctrine. I think it is too much reading on his part. Or maybe he included them bc it was not strictly a gospel preaching but a lecture that allowed Q and A.

11. I see why Ihedinobi says we share a whole lot in our christian convictions as a denominator. If he subscribes to all that this man does, then I do agree with him in conviction. At least 80%; and I believe that is a pass mark on a "test" of agreeing to disagree.

Nice lecture.

This sermon transformed my walk when I first heard it years ago. May God continue to empower His servants to fearlessly declare the gospel - and let those who will be saved by it, be saved by it.

Currently listening to the one in the OP by NT Wright...so far so good...

I'm just finishing the last of the videos, bro. They're so good. Michael did quite a bit of work on me. I'll need some time to assimilate the entire thing. Thank you, bro.

Very interesting video. Bart was really upset about suffering and obviously would rather it didn't exist, but obviously denying God's existence neither solves the problem of suffering nor does it make it go away. Such a response is the same as a child's tantrum about something it wants but can't have for some reason. I actually felt for Bart but his position wasn't well thought out.

Dinesh's answers were remarkable. I hope that they eventually get through to Bart.

Bart made his agruments from the bible, he pointed out that some of the bible writers(he mentioned them) said only certian groups of people will suffer. . .Some said only the guilty and sinners will suffer, while other said only the rightoues will suffer. But the reality we see around does not support any of their positions. . .You analogy is very flawed because in the bible god in many places PROMISED to protect his own, guide them and keep them away from evil. . .The fact that many believers are suffering for just no reason means either such a god is a failure or he does not exist, that was Ehrmans point. . .The reality we see around does NOT support any of the biblical claims is what he was saying. . .

Dinesh's answers were remarkable. I hope that they eventually get through to Bart.

A person who can not clearly say if god answers prayers or not is someone whose answer you consider remarkable?. . .interesting. . .

History makes clear that we'll never agree short of a miracle on issues like this, so I don't plan to pursue this. Even should we continue to discuss it, it won't be on this thread which I want to focus wholly on videos of worth to the Christian and the seeking heart not on debates of this sort. So if you want to discuss it further, you may start another thread. I won't answer the above here.
