An Abeokuta Magistrates' Court on Monday sentenced a 19-year-old student, Oluwaseyifunmi Jolaosho, to two years imprisonment for stealing a blackberry phone valued at N50,000.

Jolaosho of no fixed address pleaded guilty to aone- count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Augustine Ozimini, told the court that the offence was committed on May 11 at 6, Balogun St., Ore-Meji, Oluwo, Onikolobo in Abeokuta.

Ozimini said that the convict entered the room of one Miss Olaide Somorin and stole her cell phone, adding that Somorin's roommate, who saw the convict when he was rushing out of thehouse, raised an alarm.

He said that when Jolaosho was apprehended, the stolen cell phone was found in his possession.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mr Olayinka Idowu, sentenced Jolaosho to two years imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine payable after three months.

Our Justice System only have power on the poor.

My people, please don't steal - If you must, make sure it is in Billions or Hundreds of millions at least. Even your church people, family members and those from your village will salute you.

2 years imprisonment for stealing ordinary blackberry - who are these idiotic judges? he's just a hungry petty thief. how about giving him community service like sweeping the secretariat for 1000 hours without payment? i have lost faith in our judiciary - it's being managed by silverback apes!

My take is, the judge was simply mad that at this mega-stealing period, especially during the most corrupt regime in the history of Nigeria, the boy was soooo d0mb enough to steal "JUST" a blackberry. My sure the Judge is still pissed at the boy and his attorney. The anger been that the boy isnt a kidnapper, oil-bunkering, or land-snatcher who could settle the corrupt useless judge grin

may God forgive the judge. i wount curse him. Cecilia ibru stole shareholder's money she got away with one year jail term, my father invested quarter of a million in bank phb some group of crooks made away with the money and are now roaming on the street of Nigeria. may god punish those in the judiciary who only make the law to suite the rich

if he had kidnapd the owner of the phone or bombed the place where he had stoln the phone......he would have been smiling to the bank......the only illegal crimes in naija are petty crimes

if cecilia Ibru stole 50billion naira and was jailed 4 two years out of which 18month was spent in the hospital and 6months at home.Then what if she had stole a BB that cost 50 thousands naira only she could have spent 2day in jailed.NIGERIA AND HER JUDICIAL SYSTEM.

Though i'm not supporting robbery but this is a miscarriage of justice. He should have at least been beaten severely. Afterall what did they do to our polithiefcians who robbed the country of billions of naira on a daily basis?
