Oniwo, its okay to do both. I farmed in both.
First if you want to plant tomato as it is currently done now in Nigeria, you will never break even.
My advise is that 3 hectares is too much for you to start vegetable production on, break the plot into 2 and plant maize on the 2 acres first while you use the 1 hectare to plant tomatoes and Ugwu.
Ugwu don't really require land, may be 0.5 acres of the land is enough since you will need to design canopy stake for it.
Any other information pm me. Thanks

Every activities in farming is lucrative provided you have your market. There is also market for every agric products but you need to mind your timing. For instance, peppers and tomatoes are always scarce and therefore expensive between December to February. Timing your pepper to be harvest at those time will fetch you much though cost more to plant cause you need to wet.

please get some basic practical knowledge before you commits your resources.
Make sure the farm assistance have adequate knowledge of the crop you want to specialise on.
Please don't go in with that desperation to make money quick quick.
You need to learn the rope. You can not manage farm in Ogun State from Lagos except you have enough resources to play with

In order to optimize profit in vegetable farming, it is advised you apply Epsom salt for green leaves, disease resistance and healthy fruits of tomato, ugwu, pepper, melon, etc. Wishing all a fruitful planting season.
