The Oyo state government appears set to transform petty and street trading to a more dignifying business with the provision of neighbourhood markets in various parts of the state. The construction of over 1,000 shops located at the former Scouts’ camp site, Challenge area in Ibadan-the state capital, has almost been completed and will be opened for use in the next few days. This is reportedly the first major market that will be constructed in the ancient city in over three decades. The last market was constructed in 1980. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myD_BUYPZx8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=myD_BUYPZx8#t=0s http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/06/04/ibadan-gets-new-market-in-over-30-years/ 2 Likes |

Just seen the youtube video. Impressive. Let the haters of the ACN, including the lunatic who posts inappropriately in bold red font all over the place, come and spin this negatively. Let me guess "how does a modern and organised market benefit ordinary Nigerians". 11 Likes |

njazra: My guy, na the truth now. They will tell you the money used on the market should have been spent on Hospitals. On the next thread about the commissioning of a new general hospital in Ogun, same sad folks will say they should have spent the money on education. On the launch of the educational aid (Opon Imo) in Osun, these disgruntled elements will shout that the kids will watch porn on the tablet when they do not even possess minimal objectivity to learn about the damn tablet to know it is internet-disabled. Sad folks. As long as the progress we are seeing continues, then disgruntled elements can keep making their noise on Nairaland that stakeholders and end users are totally oblivious to. 12 Likes |

Okija juju: You mean it took them 30 years to build this crap? You don't need space travel, super computers, etc to sell garawa of garri, ata rodo, shombo, alubosa, and tomato. You need to keep it simple for simple maintenance. 30 Likes |

abes: Like I said, this is 2013.. Go to obodo Oyinbos and see where they sell these same things you listed here. That's why Fashola and Amaechi would not use tax payers money to build this batcher market. By 2020, our markets should come with central air conditioning and stuffs like that. This market would have been the SHIIT if this were 1988. I'm sorry bro, I'm not impressed. I expect a certain level of standard and quality from our government. This type of crap has no place in the future we are aspiring towards so I can't celebrate it simply because it took them 30 years to do something that belongs to 30 years ago era.. 6 Likes |

9jadelta: so, what do you want them to build? twin tower for market women? smh You will do well to ignore him, he is a certified troll on this thread going by his post. The market has fire service stations,Police stations, health centres, Warehouses, car/trailer parks, modern abattoir, units of borehole water, toilet/bathroom facilities,.....e.t.c . It is free of charge to displaced market men/women for the first three months, thereafter they pay a token for maintenance of market. Other neighbourhood markets of such standard is being built across the state. 1 Like |

Okija juju: You mean it took them 30 years to build this crap? Okija, simple English you don't know. The last time any market was built was 3 decades not 3 decades of building this one. 6 Likes |

This is lovely. I am so far impressed by the doings of the ACN governors. I just hope that they maintain this same momentum so that Ondo can open their eyes to the treacherous fool they installed as governor. I used to tout for that swine but now I know better. ACN all the way! For as long as they continue to be true though. I would cast my vote to change them at the drop of a hat if they show signs of going the PDP way. Sai Yoruba land! 3 Likes |

9jadelta: so, what do you want them to build? twin tower for market women? smh So because they are market women, they don't deserve to sell in proper big mall type market abi? Your problem my friend is that you are condescending. You already referred to them as 'market women', worthy of nothing good. 2 Likes |

yemmight: And your problem my friend is that you don't know how to comprehend English.. My point was that it took them 30 years to build a market that is only fit for 30 years ago, hence the 'it took them 30 years to build this crap'. I hope you get it now, otherwise, your problem is bigger than me.. Na federal government you suppose go hold.. 3 Likes |

Gbawe: Hhahahahahahaaaaa Why should I bad belle wetin no go affect me.. I simply want to hold our governments to a certain level of standard. Even by local government standards, this market is f*cking poor. Especially now that we are expecting a year of heavy down pour of rains. How much does it cost to build a proper mordern market? This thing is not fit for 2013. Look at the markets Fashola built in Lagos? E be like say you and your people dey forbid better thing. 4 Likes |

Okija juju:I totally agree with you. Mediocrity has to stop. What if it is a garri market, who would get killed if the whole thing was built like a simple mall-a large building with lock up tables, 5 or more entrances, garage for trucks, toilet facilities and the rest. This is bullshite jor! 4 Likes |

9jadelta: ok tell me, can you go to 56th floor to buy garri? does this market look small to you? talking computer age as if majority of the people that will use the market know anything about computer. Your problem is simply one of projection.. So because the market women today can't use a computer, we should give them Shity market stalls. By 2020, I expect Nigeria to be at a certain level. Now if this is my hope for Nigeria, you don't expect me to celebrate this rubbish. That's what places overlords like Fashola, Amaechi and Akpabio way ahead of others. While Ibadan is celebrating a 1lane flyover in 2013, Rivers State is thinking of how to break down their barely 8year old 1 lane flyover and replace it with a triple carriage flyover. While Ibadan is celebrating the introduction of 4stroke engine keke napep by heir governor, Fashola is building intra-city trams that will remove taxis and buses from some routes by 2020. If you have no idea where you want to be in the future, then bullshit like this is for you. When Governor Amaechi took office from Odili, a one lane bridge was under construction in port harcourt. He stopped the work and tried to see how they could increase it to a two lane bridge. Sadly, the pillars were not designed for that. By 2030, some states would be so backwards, other progressive states would buy other states. 4 Likes |
