The 'Curse'of any multi-racial society is ethnic suspicion most times when 'things is not what it seems'.believing that ethnic resentment is one-sided is the pinnacle of ignorance.we are all guilty of it ,daily.is like what WHITE IS TO RICE.we are too ethnic-conscious to look deep.or look back before 'CASTING THE FIRST STONE'.the hullabaloo and innuendos surrounding the APC 'MERGER' is an examplar of how ,a la TUPAC:'SOMETHINGS WOULD NEVER CHANGE'.the talk by most S/south and S/East political analysts is that the South-WEST IS AT IT AGAIN;'collaborators and spoilers'.this smacks of ignorance of epic proportions,taking into account Nigeria's political history and the Craft that is politics itself.
Would the NPC in the 1st Republic been able to form a govt. alone,without the support of Southern 'minorities',or NIGER-DELTA in today's parlance?the same NORTH-SOUTH/SOUTH alliance produced an NPN Victory over the UPN in the 1979 Elections.recently,Bayelsa Gov.SERIAKE DICKSON lauded Abacha's OMPADEC,IGNORING THE CRIMINALITY OF THE REGIME-economic and political.a similar alliance between the North and the South-East produced the NPN-NPP accord of 1983.it is only bona fide students of history and the tricky craft that is politics, who wouldn't blink or be curious at the recent alliance between the NORTH AND SOUTH-WEST, or better put between TINUBU and BUHARI.
the talk of Yoruba 'collaborators' is a reflection of casting stones while living in glass houses.the craft that is nigerian politics tells of a bitter truth:no region can win the PRESIDENCY ON ITS OWN.the 2011 presidential elections would have been a different result if such merger had been worked out.and earlier too.the Strength of any Democracy is measured by the capacity of the OPPOSITION PARTY to unseat the ruling party.this tells of why Democracy in Ghana,Senegal is rated ahead of Nigeria AND South Africa.it is not mistaken to claim that Tinubu's efforts to crack federal power is all to protect his financial interests and stave off EFCC prosecution or to claim that the NEW APC are strange bedfellows.strange bedfelows?the same can also be said of the PDP itself. and have we forgotten that in politics,there are no Permanent friends or Enemies,ONLY PERMANENT INTERESTS?

@OP

Some great points throughout. At the end of the day, a strong and vibrant opposition is needed to keep the ruling Party on its feet. You are correct to state that the democracy of some African nations are stronger than that of Nigeria because of that very point i.e strong opposition able to depose a ruling Party performing badly. This is often the best situation for making ruling Parties perform optimally worldwide.

The exposed politicians in the PDP, i.e those into the core science of politics and not just 'chopulate disciples', will appreciate the arrival of the APC as a badly needed and long awaited evolutionary stage our politics needed to reach to herald further progress for Nigeria.
