Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN have handed both the federal and the Rivers State Governments, a seven-day ultimatum to commence work on the deplorable Eleme-Onne link road in the state.

The two unions, which stormed the road to protest its deplorable state, said members cannot continue to waste productive hours on the road because of its deplorable state.

Chairman of NUPENG, Eastern zone, Mr. Godwin Ayuba, who spoke to Vanguar, said that haulage vehicles were finding it very difficult to ply the road, adding that if the federal and state governments failed to commence work on the road in compliance with the ultimatum, members would be forced to remain at home.

According to him, members of the two oil unions pay so much as tax to the Rivers State Government, stressing that it was not there business who was responsible for the road, as all they want was for same to be fixed.

He said: "There are about 300 companies at the Onne Free trade zone, the Eleme Petrochemical is also affected by the deplorable state of the roads. The biggest refinery in the country is also in the area. Our members pay the highest tax to the state government, yet we spend four to five hours on the road because of the bad state. We are giving the governments seven days ultimatum to commence work on the road. We don't want to know which level of government owns the road. When we go on strike, we will not want to know which level of government will be affected."

The said road is the East-West road that runs from Eleme junction in Rumuokwurusi to trailer park near Onne. Infact the entire stretch of East-West road that runs North of Port Harcourt metropolis from Choba to Alesa/refinery junction is in a mess courtesy of Orubebe and his Oga.

For those of you shouting it is federal government responsibility not state you are right, but answer the following questions.

The so called federal road does it fly in the sky or it passed through a state with a state government in place?

Why is the Akwai-Ibom state axis of the same road one of the best roads in the country all the way to Itu near CALABAR? Or is Orubebe giving Akpabio special money?

It is a known fact that we spend close to 4 hours on daily basis in the rumoudara axis of east west road, but those of you that know port harcourt there is an alternative bye pass from Eliozu bridge trough rumunduru community (culvert) to Elimbu junction which is absolutely unmotorable even to german 6 wheel drive, does this road also belong to Orubebe or Ameachi?

From culvert To Eneka is now unmotorable, in fact water flow into houses from the roads and shop owners in that axis are out of business, is this also Orubebe's road?
Ameachi without prejudice was one of the best governor's in his first term when he build the schools. But over ambition will not allow him to deliver dividends of democracy to his people. Rather the only thing that is central in his mind is vice presidency.

All in defense of a failure called Orubebe? They should allow Amaechi work the road like he requested. After all Amaechi did the Port Harcourt-Owerri expressway.

You are damn wrong again. The report says Eleme-Onne Link road leading into the free zone. As you may have known that stretch of link road was constructed two years ago but its now failing again. Several tankers overturn on that road every week causing serious traffic problem. The construction was done by RCC and awarded by FG. However, the East-West road leading to that link road remains bad.
