AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY ,ZARIA ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO VARIOUS PROGRAMMES OF THE S/No Faculty/Course REQUIREMENTS UME Subjects Direct Entry Candidates UME Candidates 1. ADMINISTRATION Accounting 1) Two ‘A’ level / IJ MB passes in Management/Social Science subjects one of which must be Economics. 2) A credit/Merit Pass in ABU Diploma in Accounting, Banking or Insurance. Five ‘0’ level credit passes including English Language, Economi cs, Mathematics and any other two (2) Management/Social Science subjects . Use of English, Economics, Mathematics and any Management or Social Science subject . Business Administration 1) Two ‘A’ level / IJMB passes in Management/Social Science subjects one of which must be Economics. 2) A credit/Merit Pass in ABU Diploma in Accounting, Banking or Insurance. Five ‘0’ level credit passes including English Language, Economics, Mathematics and any other two (2) Management/So cial Science subjects . Use of English, Economics, Mathematics and any Management or Social Science subject . Public Administration 1) Two ‘A’ level / IJMB passes One of which must include Government. 2) A Merit Pass in ABU Diploma in P ublic Administration or Local Government. Five ‘0’ level credit passes including English Language, Government or History, Economics. At least a pass in Mathematics. Use of English, Government/History, Economics and any other subject. Loc al Government Studies. 1) Two ‘A’ level / IJMB passes One of which must include Government or History. 2) A Merit Pass in ABU Diploma in Local Government or Public Administration. Five ‘0’ level credit passes including Eng lish Language, Government or History, Economics and any other two subjects. At least a pass in Mathematics Use of English, Government/History, Economics and any other subject. 2. AGRICULTURE 1) Two ‘A’ level / IJMB Passes in Chemistry and Biology or Botan y or Zoology. 2) HND in Agriculture or related field of study with a minimum of credit pass. Five ‘0’ level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science. Use of English, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science. 3. ARTS English Language Two ‘A’ level / IJMB or NCE Passes in Literature in English and any other Arts or Social Science subject. Five ‘0’ level credit passes to include Literature in English and English Language, an d any other Arts or Social Science subjects Use of English, one Arts subject and two other Arts or Social Science subjects. English Literature Two ‘A’ level / IJMB or NCE Passes in Literature in English and any other Arts or Social Science subject. Five ‘0’ level credit passes to include Literature in English and English Language, Use of English, one Arts subject and two other Arts or Social Science subjects. 2 Theatre and Performing Arts . 1) IJMB or ‘A’ level Theatre or Performing Arts, Literature in Eng lish Journalism, Mass Comm. Creative Arts, Music and Dance, Literature in English. 2) ABU ND in Drama at credit level. 3) NCE in Drama, Theatre or Performing Arts and Creative Arts. Literature in English is desirable. Five ‘0’ level credit passes to include Lit erature in English and English Language, and any other Arts or Social Science subjects. Use of English, Literature in English and two other relevant subjects Archaeology Archaeology / History 1) Two “A” Level / IJMB with a minimum of “C” i n History, Government, Economics, Geology , Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. French is an added advantage. 2) NCE with a minimum of “C” in History, Government, Economics, Geology , Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. Fr ench is an added advantage. 1) Two “A” level / IJMB with a minimum of “C” grade in History and any of the following subjects: Government, Economics, Geology , Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. French is an added advantage. 2) NCE with a mini mum of “C” grade in History and any of the following subjects: Government, Economics, Geology , Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. French is an added advantage. Archaeology Five ‘O’ level credit passes which must include English Lang uage and one of the following: History, Government, Economics, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, I.R.K. and C.R.K. Not applicable. Use of English, History or Government and two other subjects from Arts/Social Sciences OR any three Scie nce subjects. French 1) NCE with a minimum of “C” in French. 2) ABU Diploma Minimum of Merit Pass in French Language Education. 3) Two ‘A’ level / IJMB passes including French and any other Arts or Social Science subjects. Five ‘0’ level credit passes to include English Language and French plus any other Arts or Social Sciences subjects. Use of English, French and any other two subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. History 1) Two ‘A’ level / IJMB Passes One of which must be History or Government. 2) NCE with a mini mum of “C” in History. Five ‘0’ level credit passes to include English Language, History or Government Use of English, History or Government and any other two Arts or Social Science subjects. Arabic 1) Two ‘A’ level / IJMB Passes including Arabic and othe r Arts subjects. 2) ABU Diploma in Arabic at credit level. 3) NCE in Arabic. Five ‘0’ level credit passes including English Language and Arabic plus any two other subject from Arts. Use of English, Arabic and any other two subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. Hausa 1) Two ‘A’ level / IJMB Passes including Hausa and other Arts subjects. 2) ABU Diploma at credit level. 3) NCE in Hausa. Five ‘0’ level credit passes including English Language and Hausa and any other two Arts subjects. Use of English, Hausa and any other two Arts subjects. 4. EDUCATION Christian Religious Studies 1) NCE with a minimum of ‘C’ grade in Education and CRS 2) NCE with a minimum of ‘D’ grade in the second teaching subject. 3) ABU Diploma in CRS with a minimum of Merit pass Five ‘0’ level cre dit which must include English Language and CRS. 3 Islamic Religious Studies 1) NCE with a minimum of ‘C’ grade in Islamic Studies and Education 2) IJMB with a minimum of ‘E’ grade in all the three subjects including I.R.S. 3) ABU Diploma in Islamic Studies with a minimum of Merit Pass. 4) ND in Islamic Studies from any University with a minimum of Lower Credit. Five ‘0’ level credit which must include English Language and Islamic Studies. Mathematics Education 1) NCE with a minimum of ‘C’ grade in Education and Ma thematics 2) IJMB with a minimum of ‘D’ grade in Mathematics and minimum of ‘E’ grade in the two other subjects. 3) ND with a minimum of Merit Pass in Mathematics. 4) ABU Higher Diploma with a minimum of Merit Pass in Mathematics Education. Five ‘0’ level credit w hich must include English Language and Mathematics. Chemistry Education 1) NCE with ‘C’ grade in Education and Chemistry. 2) IJMB or ‘A’ level with a minimum of ‘C’ grade in Chemistry and a minimum of ‘D’ grade in one other Science subject from Biology, Phys ics, Geography. 3) ABU Diploma in Chemistry Education with Merit pass. Five ‘0’ level credit which must include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, plus Physics/Geography.. TC II with credit pass in Integrated Science, English Language and a ny other three subjects. Geography Education 1) NCE with minimum of ‘C’ grade in Education and Geography 2) IJMB or ‘A’ level passes with a minimum of ‘C’ grade in Geography and ‘D’ in one other Science subjects. 3) ABU Diploma in Geography Education with a mi nimum of merit pass. Five ‘O’ level credit in Geography, Mathematics, English language and any other one from Chemistry, physics or Biology. TC II credit pass in Mathematics, Geography, English Language and any other three subjects. Biology Education 1) NCE with ‘C’ grade in Education and Biology. 2) IJMB or ‘A’ level passes with ‘C’ grade in Biology and ‘D’ in one other Science subjects from Chemistry, Physics, Integrated Science or Geography. 3) ABU Diploma in Biology Education with a minimum of merit pass. Five ‘O’ level credit passes in Biology, Mathematics, English language and Chemistry and any other from physics or Geography. TC II credit passes in English Language, Integrated Science and any other three subjects. Integrated Science 1) NCE with ‘C’ gr ade in Education and Integrated Science. 2) IJMB or ‘A’ level pass with a minimum of ‘C’ grade (merit) in Physics and ‘D’ grade in any other Science subjects 3) ABU Diploma in Integrated Science or Physics Education with a minimum of Merit pass. Five ‘O’ level c redit passes in English language, Mathematics, Physics Chemistry and Biology. TC II credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Inte grated Science, and any other two subjects from the following: Chemistry, Biology, Geography. Home Economics 1) ABU D iploma in Home Economics with a minimum of Upper credit. 2) NCE merit in Home Economics and Education. 3) ABU Higher National Diploma with lower credit in Home Economics. Five ‘O’ level credits passes in English Language, Food and Nutrition, Home Management or Textile and Clothing, and any other three subjects. 4 Agricultural Education 1) NCE Agric Education (Double Major) with merit pass. 2) HND Agric. Science (ABU) with minimum of lower credit. 3) ABU National Diploma with minimum of credit pass. Five ‘O’ level cred it passes including Chemistry and Biology or Agric Science, Integrated Science/General Science. Candidates with ND in agriculture with a minimum of lower credit. Use of English, Chemistry, Biology, Agric. Science or Physics. Waiver : ABU Diploma in Agricult ure with credit will be allowed 100 level. Business Education 1) NCE Minimum of Merit pass in Business Education 2) Two credit passes at IJMB in either Economics, Business Management, Accounting etc. 3) ABU Diploma with upper credit in related discipline. 4) HND w ith credit pass in Business Studies and R/A stage III in secretarial studies. Five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language and any four of Accounting Economics, Commerce, Business Methods, Shorthand and Typewriting with at least a Credit in Math ematics. Library and Information Science 1) “A” Level / IJMB passes in at least two subjects. 2) ABU Diploma in Library & Information Science (with at least Merit Grade). 3) 3) NCE with minimum of Merit Grade in two subjects. Five “O” Level credits passes inc luding English Language & at least a pass in Mathematics. OR TC II Certificate with credit/merit in at least five subjects including English Language and at least a pass in Mathematics. Use of English and any other three subjects. Hausa Education 1) “A” Level passes / IJMB in at least two subjects which must include Hausa. 2) ABU Diploma in Hausa with minimum of Merit pass. 3) NCE with minimum of “C” grade in Hausa Five “O” Level credits passes including English Language and Hausa. Arabic Education 1) “A” Leve l passes / IJMB in at least two subjects which must include Arabic. 2) ABU Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies with minimum of Merit pass. 3) NCE with minimum of “C” grade in Arabic. Five “O” Level credits passes including English Language and Arabic Social Studies Education 1) “A” Level passes / IJMB in at least two subjects which must include Social Studies 2) ABU Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies with minimum of Merit pass. 3) NCE with minimum of “C” grade in Social Studies Five “O” Level credits passes includ ing English Language and Social Science subjects. Physical and Health Education 1) NCE passes in two major subjects of any other combination with P.E. or H.E. or P.H.E. 2) Two ‘A’ level passes in science subjects; Chemistry Physics, Biology and Mathematics. 3) A BU Diploma with merit pass in P.H.E. Five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any one Science subject from Biology and Chemistry. Guidance and Counseling 1) Merit pass in Higher / Ordinary Diploma in Guidance and Counseling fro m ABU. 2) NCE with Merit and above in Education and the Teaching Subjects. Five ‘O’ level credit passes in Arts & Social Sciences including English Language with a pass in Mathematics. Computer Science Education 1) Merit Pass in Higher Diploma and Dip loma in Computer, Statistic or Mathematics Education. 2) NCE with Merit in Education and Computer Science. Five ‘O’ credit pass which must include Mathematics, Physics English Language and any other two Science Subjects. 5 5. ENGINEERING Agricultural Engineering 1) Two ‘A’ level / IJMB Passes in Mathematics, and either Physics, Chemistry or Agric Science. 2) ND Upper Credit or Distinction in Engineering or Physics/Mathematics from accredited institution. 3) HND Lower Credit in Agricultural Engineering from a ccredited institution. Five ‘0’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Agric Science and any other Science subject. Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Chemical Engineering 1) Two ‘A’ level /IJMB Pas ses in Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics. 2) ND Upper Credit in Chemical Engineering from accredited institution. 3) HND Lower Credit in Chemical Engineering from accredited institution. Five ‘0’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Che mistry and any other Science subject. Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Civil Engineering 1) Two ‘A’ level/IJMB Passes which must include Mathematics Chemistry and Physics. 2) ND in Civil Eng. at Upper Credit from accredited institution 3) 3) H ND in Civil Eng. with at least Lower Credit from accredited institution Five ‘0’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject.
