THE AGONY OF A NIGERIAN GRADUATE!

This feisty piece is actually provoked by the rate at which employers of labour embrace some questionable criteria in their recruitment processes. To be a seemingly optimitic graduate in Nigeria today, two things must be on your side..
1. Age (@ best,less than 25) and
2. Your result must be nothing less than 2'1.
These are bench mark for most of these big private organizations. It however saddens that it only gives the son of a common man chances of getting invited for tests and interviews, it doesn't necessarily guaranty the assurance of getting the job.. Synonymous to a snake trying to encircle his enemies in a jungle where law and order play coy to the logic of the unbridled giant.

I get this curious when I saw an erected sign post on my way to the office on friday advertising a vacancy for the post of a receptionist with a specified age! A road side small dry cleaning office for that matter! I felt bad with this ugly trend testifying to the air of plausibility giving to placing age barrier on job vacancies and hence the necesity for sensitization against this ugly development.

Nigeria is a country that only pay lip service to the protection of her youth's interest.. This should baffle a patriotic Nigerian and arouse our curiosity as to knowing the correlation between abilities/capabilities to deliver and age/2'1. Thank God man is not God..its only with God that some could scale through the turbulence of the consequences of these baseless criteria

Many banks now have resolved to employing contract staff in order to gratify their selfish interest of profit maximization, they discriminate between BSc, HND and OND. This is the only time they are being realistic in order to exploit! Realistic because they give preference to OND holders at the expense of others without minding the qualification but the potential and capabilities, which they often ignore when it comes to recruitment of core staff. They over use them like rags and pay them peanut, they serve without having access to allowances that core staff who do not work as much as they do enjoy. This I call cynical exploitation of the gullibles!

The question now is,is there any government regulating body that sees to matters relating to recruitment? What have they done to question this conventional incongruities? Why the use of age In a country that her institution's academic calenders fluctuates and unpredictable owing to strike actions which results at the slightest disagreement/issue and consequently add unsolicited years to the planned years of study?

This is a clarion call to wakeup to our responsibilities, I foresee the highest level of civil unrest in Nigeria come 15yrs unless an efficacious amendment is made to curtail the apocalyptic calamity that looms. Let those who think revolution wake up, violent revolution is a dream that may never come through owing the nature of Nigerians, our high sense of adaptation to consistent changes is our greatest problem. If insurgency caused by stark illiterates like Bokoharam can shake the nation as much as it does, now imagine how sophisticated it would be when its caused by conglomeration of unemployed graduates?

A word they say is enough for the wise!

Mr, you should be crying rather than lamenting.
What sort of work do you think most of those bank jobs are?
Those jobs are clerical work. It is not by degree or phd.
Elsewhere in the world, those jobs are done by school leavers.SSCE grade.
Over here , they call it associate to make it sound fancy.
In reality,it used to be called CLERK.
My advise is for you to look for something to do. There is nothing called shame when it comes to earning money.
If buying your own danfo and driving it yourself is going to make money, go for it.
It is not how you get there that matters but getting there.
Many of those agberos make more money in a month than most bank workers.
Learn a trade , mechanic, tailor , bricklaying etc. apply your degree to those trade to set yourself apart.
STOP WAITING FOR A WHITE COLLAR JOB.

Bloggernaija, you've actually made a nice contribution, but the fact is, all you've said are easier said than done, no one wishes or pray to turn a conductor or bus driver after years of struggling to get the cerfltificate, if not for the worrisome situation that strains logic. However, starting all you suggested even requires capital... The best of Ideas can transforms to nothin if not financially backed up.
