Osun Commissions 12 Comprehensive Health Centres by Aderostock(m): 6:26am On Jul 01, 2013
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has
commissioned comprehensive health centres,
constructed in all councils through Association of
Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
Speaking at Ido-Osun, Egbedore Local
Government Area of the state while
commissioning one of the Comprehensive Health
Centres, the governor said
that though the programme was initiated before
his assumption of office, no efforts were made
for the construction of the projects,
despite the deduction being made every month,
until the intervention of
his administration.
According to him, but for the quick intervention
of the State Government, the
money being deducted from the allocations to
local governments by for
the construction of comprehensive health
centres across the country
would have gone down the drain.
Sequel to the intervention of the administration,
Aregbesola said that of all
the 30 local government areas in the state, 17 of
such projects have
been completed, out of which 12 have been well
equipped and ready for
commissioning, just as work is ongoing on the
rest.
Aregbesola said that as much as his
administration is committed to the sound
healthcare delivery to the people, they should
ensure the cleanliness of
their environment, with a view to ensuring the
reduction in outbreak of
epidemics and government expenses on
healthcare delivery.
“We all know that no matter how big a hospital
is, it cannot cater to the
needs of everybody and that is why we must all
ensure the cleanliness of
our environment to reduce going to hospital for
treatments.
“Our medical workers should also ensure that
they remain friendly to their
patients so that they will not feel depressed. But
for a reason, no one
will be willing to come to hospital for treatment.
“The taxpayers’ money was used for the
construction of this health centre and you must
treat them as kings and queens,” he said.
In his address, Ibrahim Akande, the executive
secretary of Egbedore Local
Government, said that the government at the
state and local level in
Osun attach much importance to the health of
the people.
He said that nearly all aspects of healthcare
delivery would be taken care
of in the health centre, adding that, “There is
infant and maternal
care, HIV/AIDS care, treatment of general and
various form of diseases,
including ones that will necessitate admission.”
