In spite of bad governance witness in the past and present government in Nigeria with almost no hope for the common man and the youths (the acclaimed future leaders), can Nigerians ever be braved enough to hit the street in removal of poor and mal-functioning leaders like egyptians did?

Someone said, Nigerians can't even remove a village chief left alone, a counsellor, a Local Govt. Chairman and then the powerful president.

What do you think?

Great/Successful revolutions are either done by the Army (who can in their small numbers) or the Middle-Class (who can in their large numbers)

Successive regimes in Nigeria have ensured that the Middle-class is never larger than a quarter of the Poor, you will never have a revolution in Nigeria as the ones who can are conveniently bribed with Oil Blocs and juicy contracts or facing sack in numerous Bank branches across the country

Nigerians have done it many times before (Ali Mun Go, 1983, Dawodu Brothers [1987], SAP riots [1988 and 1989], June 12 riots, etc).

They have shown defiance, "how many students soldier go kill?"

But they have also known the meaning of brutality (Inter-Centre, Shangisha, Alagbon, Tekunle, godogodo, killandgo, etc). There's a Ted-Ex video on Youtube in which a British-Nigerian talks about how his friend died during the SAP struggle (electric shock to the penis). I wish I could remember the name of the speaker.

Much love to students of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and their makeshift ambulances.

There's the other tool if brutality doesn't work (psychological warfare and propaganda).

"Do not let your children go outside!" "Parents and guardians should caution their wards!" "The children of the sponsors of this demonstration are enjoying outside the country while your children are being sent out on the streets to die!" (The voice of that Ministry of Information voice over artist has been seared into my brain).

The riot is being sponsored by people from the (insert region, eg, north, east, west, south, etc). They don't want my kinsman to be president! Why should they demonstrate when he is president?

You just want to kill yourself for nothing! All the demonstrations we've had in this country, what have they achieved? No go siddon! When you do finish you go come back. You go demonstrate, kill yourself, when you finish all of them (the government and the leaders of the protest) go siddon drink together.

^^^ the idea that the protests were a waste of time was emphasised by the broadcast media at a time that we had only government owned tv and radio stations. Nigeria was burning, but NTA was busy showing Ibrahim and Mariam Babangida, in the latest CVU limousine, visiting Dan Quayle and his wife.

So Nigerians are now weary, wary and divided.

People sit at the comfort of their home and start shouting for revolution.
What stops you from taking to the street and starting the revolution.
You want revolution/change them be at the forefront. The egytian revolution started with just 1 person so nobody stops you from starting one.
