Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan says community which were destroyed in the wake of violence in some parts of Warri North Local Government will be rehabilitated.

Speaking today in Warri at a peace and security meeting with security commanders and leaders of Itsekiri, and Ijaw communities in the local government area Governor Uduaghan said a thorough assessment of the damage caused would be carried out and the people provided with relief materials.

Governor Uduaghan condemned the violence which occurred early this month claiming lives and property in some Itsekiri Communities in Warri North Local Government, promising that that State Government and the State Oil Producing Community Development Commission, DESOPADEC, would rehabilitate damaged communities.

He said President Goodluck Jonathan was on top of the situation through the strengthening of the security agencies.

The governor said he acted on warning signals of violence in the area and held several peace parleys with leaders in the area.

He assured the people all persons already arrested in connection with the mayhem would be prosecuted.

Governor Uduaghan expressed gratitude to Itsekiri youths for not retaliating and to notable Ijaw leaders including Chief E.K. Clark for condemning the violence.

Briefing the gathering on the violence, the chairman of the Transition Committee of Warri North Local Government, Mr. David Edun said the attackers destroyed several Itsekiri communities including Gbokoda, Obaghoro and Ebrohimi.

Speaking on behalf of their communities, Chief Emmanuel Ebimami for the Ijaws and Mr. Michael Diden on behalf of the itsekiris as well as Chief Ayiri Emami and Mr. Ezekiel Akpasibowei, a former Niger-Delta agitator said the violence was caused by criminals who were intent on stealing crude oil and not ethnic agitators.

The commended Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan as well as security agencies for arresting the violence.

In their contributions, security commanders including the Commanding Officer, Four Brigade, Nigerian Army, Benin City, Edo State, Brigadier-General Pat Akem, The Commanding officer, 61 detachment, Nigeria Airforce, Warri Air Commandore Philip Jatau and the state commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba appealed to the people of the area to give peace a chance in the interest of development in the area and support security agencies.

The said the situation is calm now following the elopement of large continent of security personnel.

It would be recalled that the State Security Council at its meeting last week in Asaba had restricted the use of Speed Boats in the area and pledged support to making the perpetrators of the violence to face the music.
