… Loses two councillors to Amaechi

Two out of the suspended 17 councilors of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, have abandoned the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, and defected to Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s camp. The councillors were Ndamati Onunwor, representing Ward 16 and Linda Wali, representing Ward 8.

This was disclosed in Port Harcourt yesterday, when the 15 remaining pro-Wike councilors addressed newsmen on the political developments in the state.

The 15 councilors accused the duo of selling-out. The 17 councillors were sacked alongside the chairman of the local government, Chief Timothy Nsirim, by the state House of Assembly, on allegation of misappropriation of funds.

Briefing newsmen on behalf of his colleagues, the Chief Whip, Charles Amaechi, condemned the recent fracas in the Rivers State House of Assembly, especially, the attack on Michael Chinda. The councillors also criticized the manner of intervention by members of the House of Representatives.

According to them, the House members were selective in their approach of resolving the crisis that occurred in the State House of Assembly.

They however commended the upper chamber for setting up a committee to look into the political crisis in the state. The councillors also condemned calls by the Rivers State Government, for the removal of the state police commissioner, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, adding that he had done nothing wrong to warrant his removal.

They restated their support for Chief Nyesom Wike, the state Chairman of the party, Felix Obuah and the purported ‘new Speaker’ of the House of Assembly, Evans Bipi, and President Goodluck Jonathan.
