The much-awaited voting on recommendations of the Senate Committee on the Review of the Constitution took place yesterday.
And our dear Senate has okayed marriage for girls as young as 10. Or even younger. As long as your parents are willing to give you away.

yesterday, the Senate resolved to alter the part in our constitution that stipulates that a woman shall not be qualified for marriage until she attains the 18 years.

And this they did after Senator Ahmad Sani (Zamfara West), raised an alarm that stating a certain age for women before getting married, was against the Islamic law.

Remember that in 2009, Senator Sani had married a 13-year-old Egyptian in violation of the constitutional provision.
His act had sparked an international outrage, to which Senator Sani said he didn't care about.

After a moment of controversy, Senate President David Mark asked his colleagues to vote afresh on the provision, a situation that eventually went in favour of Sani, who, thereafter, thanked the Senate president and his colleagues for supporting his cause.

So Senate deleted age specification for women being married from the draft constitution and left the marriage age for women open.

While deleting the section from the draft constitution yesterday, the Senate claimed that a woman is deemed to be “full of age” once she is married irrespective of the age she did so.

Handiwork of core northerners... Such a huge shame.
These people seems to always think with their anus...

* What about tenancy law? House rent is on the increase every second.

* What about law against extortion of customers by banks?

* What about law against the increase in electricity tariff?

* What about law against the syndrome of pay before treatment in our hospitals?

The list is endless... Why can't these morrrrrrrrons think of basic things for once.

I won't be surprised if the Senator from Zamfara West, said to be in support of this bill resume adding more under aged girls to his harem. What exactly has gotten into these Senators as of recent? They have neglected pressing matters of National importance, and have rather dedicating their time for such rubbish as this.

marriage for people 16 - 18 is allowed in canada if the parent agreed to such marriage depend on where you are.

In Alberta, anyone 18 or over can get married. A person between the ages of 16 and 17 can get married with the consent of both parents. No one under 16 can get married; this does not apply to a female if a physician's certificate shows she is pregnant or the mother of a living child. There is no requirement for residency.[3]
In British Columbia, anyone 19 or over can get married. A person between the ages of 16 and 18 can get married with the consent of both parents. Under the age of 16, a person needs the consent of the Supreme or County Court. There is no requirement for residency.[4]
In Ontario, both parties must be 18 or over to obtain a marriage licence. A person who is 16 or 17 can get married with the consent of both parents.[5] In order to get married, the parties need to obtain a marriage licence or to arrange for the banns to be published. There is no requirement for residency.
In Québec, the legal age for marriage is 16, but unemancipated minors require parental permission to marry.[6] Marriage is governed by the Civil Code of Québec.
In New Brunswick, anyone 18 or over can get married. A never-married person aged 16 or 17 may marry with parental consent.[7]
Age restrictions are the same for opposite-sex and same-sex marriages.

Are they serious! This is child abuse, which rich muslim is willing to give his 10yr old daughter to a 50yr man, this is just a way for the rich muslims to continue to destroy the lives of the african child. Dis can not happen. And they (north) wonder why dey are still suffering. Religion: only the poor suffers.

"Nigeria, we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribe and tongue may differ,
In brotherhood we stand,
Nigerians all, are proud to serve
our sovereign motherland.
Our flag shall be a symbol,
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honoured,
And this we count as gain
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain
O Lord of all creation,
Grant this our one request
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed
And so, with peace and plenty,
Nigeria may be blessed."

I don't even know why we leave this National Anthem for Arise O Compatriot when there is none.

So here in Nigeria, Anything goes.
No wahala, Underage Recruitment begins.
#Team Catch them young.

I wonder how this won't increase Maternal Mortality rate or how it will reduce poverty or this Radicalism in our youth. Children wey won born pikin.
Make I dey observe.

These legislooters are very disgraceful scums.
Put two grown idi.ot homosexuals in jail for 15years but,
No allow ped.ophile yerima (A 60 YEARS OLD FO.O.L) to sponsor a bill for pedophilia.
Yerima broke the law already and he is still in the house. That gave him the liver to sponsor such a disgusting bill. Next thing senator AYO would marry a 6 years old. Sick house members, sick country.

S.E governors should pass counter legislation, criminalizing underage marriage. What happened to our senators in the house. May CHUKWU castrate all rapists of children. See what this world is turning into. This is democrazy abi.

Two things come to my mind.
1. The senate just passed a bill supproting child abuse.
2. The presidency has began to support Sen. Sani so as to give him the support he wants for his 2015 ambition. If not why would such a stupid bill be re-visited and passed when there are far mor important bills to be passed in favour of the masses I pity naija. SMH
