Watercar of California has created an amphibious car called Panther James Bond would be proud to own the Panther, a US$135,000 vehicle that is perfectly at home on the open road — and in the water. The Panther is the brainchild of WaterCar Inc., a California-based (where else?) manufacturer that designs, engineers, and builds these cool amphibious vehicles. This water-capable car has been cobbled together from a variety of parts — the outside is from Jeep, the hull is custom-made, the lightweight chassis is also custom, the engine is from Honda (3.7-litre V6), and the patented transfer process when exiting the water is just as easy. |

You don’t need a special launch ramp to get in and out of the water (although it makes things easier), because you can simple drive it in and out of the water from a beach or the edge of a lake. The only problem is getting insurance and registering the vehicle here in Canada. It’s even a challenge (or outright impossible) in some States. I guess the only car or boat lover allowed to have this much fun are the folks in California. Check out just how much fun they ’re having at watercar.com. |
