The African Union has appointed a former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, as a member of its official Observer Mission to the Republic of Zimbabwe for the country's general election scheduled for July 31, 2013.


Nigeria's former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, is to lead the Observer Mission.
The Mission draws its mandate from various African Union Instruments.


These include AU Guidelines on African Union Election Observation and Monitoring Missions, 2002; OAU/AU Declaration on Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa, 2002; African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, 1981; and African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, 2007.


The AU- EOM Mission, made up of selected and fully trained observers from the African Union, will be in Zimbabwe from July 24 to August 2, 2013 to observe the conduct of the parliamentary and presidential elections.

The team is expected to increase voters' confidence in a transparent, inclusive and credible process, deepening the democratic culture in the society.


The intervention is AU’s long standing support to the stabilization and transition process in Zimbabwe for the promotion of regional peace and stability.


The Mission will remain in constant interaction with the Commission and present a final report on the elections to the AU chairperson.

OUK and OBJ are not in good terms for over 6years,I wonder how they would be able to work together. AU is rats to secure fish and other feeding stuffs.

Mugabe's party would sweep the results of the election while Chief riggers Obasanjo and Orji Kalu will come out to say that the election was free and fair. Afrika dey fall my hands
