Marcelo Bielsa, the man who led Athletico Bilbao to Two finals in his first season at the club is now jobless. Last season, the management of Athletico Bilbao sold Javi Martinez. As far as I am concerned Martinez was the reason Bayern were unstoppable last season. His magnificent work against Iniesta and Xavi led to the 7-0 aggregate Bayern Munich beat Barca last season. Javi Martinez importance to Athletic Bilbao’s dominance in 2011-2012 season was underrated. Bilbao’s struggle in the relegation zone wasn’t due to the tactical lapses of Bielsa but the fact that most of the stars of Athletic Bilbao are youngsters including Ander Herrera and Iker Munain. Javi Martinez was one of the ones that made the team gel. Marcelo Bielsa’s success at Athletic Bilbao in 2011-2012, wasn’t a fluke. At the World Cup in 2010, Bielsa masterminded the Chilean team which played a special brand of interesting and attacking football which marveled many football lovers. His style of play and his demanding training methods led stars like Alexi Sanchez and Arturo Vidal to grow and excel. Marcelo Bielsa plays a very creative brand of football. His prefered formation is a 3-3-1-3 formation. He likes his teams keeping the ball and makes his creative players perform at their very best. For Barcelona Fc to return to its great position, there are things that must be put in mind. They need a coach who can get most of their creative talents on the field performing at their best levels. That is Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Neymar, Alexi Sanchez and Pedro. Bielsa plays a formation that will certainly get most of these players on the pitch regularly and performing at their best. Also Bielsa’s style of play requires a creative defensive midfielder playing in the defense. That was the way he used Martinez and this midfielder overlaps. This brand and style of play will make Alex Song get more games and florish. Finally his possessive style of play will keep the tiki taka tradition promoted by Pep Guardiola.
