Gay foreign diplomats can serve in
Nigeria- Gbenga Ashiru
Posted by Bennie Iferi
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olugbenga
Ashiru has stated that the country will permit
the accreditation of foreign diplomats who are
in a same-sex marriage, despite its stand on
the issue.
Ashiru, who made this known in London, said
that all ambassadors to Nigeria will be
allowed to serve in the country with their
spouses “no matter their marriage status.”
“Nigeria is not against any country for
legalising gay marriage but in our country,
given our customs and traditions, as well as
religious beliefs, marriage as ordained by God
is between a man and a woman,” he said.
“But if we have diplomats with same sex
spouses posted to Nigeria, we have no choice
but to accredit them accordingly because they
come from countries where such law is in
place,” the minister added.
He however, said there was currently no such
case in the country.
The National Assembly has passed a bill
banning same sex marriage in Nigeria, with
those found guilty liable to a jail term of
between 10 years and 14 years.

How will it look like when a Man and his MAN wife holding hands appear before President Jonathan to present his Letter of Credence ?

If u no get source give us maggi sauce then. Na so them go finally accept gay marriage in naija. From accepting diplomats who are married to their fellow men to allowing citizens.

Will a lady be allowed to behave anyhow in saudi arabia because they can in their country? Or preach from the bible because it is allowed in their country.

Will someone from Aluu community be allowed to practice jungle justice in a foriegn land because it is allowed in aluu.

If we say no to it, then any country sending gay married pple as diplomats intentionally want to disrespect our laws.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olugbenga Ashiru was trying to be politically correct. He should be summoned by the National Assembly to explain his give on the interprtation of our law on the gay marriage issue. His statement portrays us as a peolpe that are not focused. How do you relax your laws for foriengners and hold your citizens accountable to such laws...only in Nigeria. The respect a friendly country has for you will reflect in the manner it respect your laws when it comes to sending you diplomats. Somebody should remind this misfit minister that being a diplomat does not place you above the laws of the land. Please don't quote me 'diplomatic immunity' as reason for his guff.

Moderator front page please, this is a matter of National Interest.
