Bauchi State Press Release: Why We Will Continue To Employ Non Indigenes by realnaijaboy: 12:23pm On Jul 25, 2013 |
PRESS RELEASE 24TH July, 2013 The attention of Bauchi State Government is hereby drawn to a Press Statement issued by a group, AREWA TRANSFORMATION AND EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVE, Bauchi State Chapter dated Tuesday, 23 July, 2013 published in some dailies. The statement signed by the group’s Leader, one Comrade Bello Aminu, condemned the Bauchi State Government’s policy of giving employment to Nigerians who are not indigenes of Bauchi state, describing the policy ‘as detrimental to the greater interests of the State’. While acknowledging the imperative of achieving unity as the basis for the policy being adopted by the Government, the group however alleged that the policy was designed to achieve ‘personal and political interests’. However, the Bauchi State Government wishes to make it categorically clear that it is not alone in adoption of the policy of offering permanent and pensionable employment to Nigerians who are not indigenes of the state. The adoption of the scheme followed the decision taken at the meeting of Northern States Governors Forum held in Kaduna in December 2008, during when all the Nineteen Governors unanimously agreed to place all non-indigenes in the Northern States civil service willing to serve the respective states they are working for on pensionable appointment. Furthermore, the Bauchi State Government under Malam (Dr) Isa Yuguda has taken a critical look at the policy of placing non-indigenes in the State Civil Service on contract appointment, and has come to the conclusion that it is no longer relevant to the 21st century civil Service. The Government believes that such a policy chases away professionals and specialists in critical sectors of the State Service. It is hoped that Bauchi State citizens as well other well-meaning Nigerians will appreciate the need to ensure the continued corporate existence of our country by giving support to all policy measures aimed at providing available opportunities to each and everyone towards realizing such a noble goal.
