Sarah Sharples, 25, and husband Lee, 37, forked out £500 on clothes, £1,000 in the nursery and £900 on a pram - then welcomed baby Joseph.

A mum-to-be who was told she was having a girl spent £3,000 on pink baby gear - and then gave birth to a BOY.

Sarah Sharples, 25, and husband Lee, 37, forked out £500 on clothes, £1,000 in the nursery and £900 on a pram. Even the bottles were pink.

Weeks later, Sarah gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, Joseph.

Sarah said: “I couldn’t understand it when the midwife said it was a boy.

“All our scans had confirmed it was a girl and I had everything prepared in pink.

“We had picked her name, Lily-Mae, and had the room decorated with her name stencilled across the pink feature wall.

“We even had personalised blankets as gifts from family and friends.”

She added: “We looked at each other and couldn’t believe that Lily-Mae was actually a boy.”

Sarah and Lee, of Blyth, Northumberland, wanted to know the sex of their first child and at her 20-week-scan discovered it was a girl.

“It was my first baby and so we had to buy all the essentials” said Sarah.

“I wanted everything to be perfect for her so that she would want for nothing. Being prepared was my main concern and seeing as I knew I was having a girl I didn’t see the harm in buying everything in pink.”

Lee said: “There was so much to change and friends and family have been so helpful.

“We had bought most of the clothes from ASDA and they were fantastic and let us exchange everything.

“But we still have a lot of pink things that we can’t return and so we’re just keeping them and hoping, at some stage, we have a girl.

Since Joseph’s arrival in June Lee has been busy decorating.

“The nursery is now redecorated with a Monsters Inc. theme so we think Joseph will prefer that to a pink room” he said.[/b]

LOL grin grin.Thats why its safer to buy yellow, green, yellow, orange and white. Then buy the more specific colours when baby gets here.

I hardly dress my daughter in pink anyway undecided.I cant stand it when everything is just pinky pinky around lil girls .Even her room colour scheme is yellow and lime green with just dashes of pink.Sadly embarassed she is beginning to like pink.

Nah, I don't believe they spent anything near that amount jare especially after taking a look at the tardy jumper and red shoes she held up for the camera. She doesn't even look like she can afford that sort of money to spend on a new born who'll out grow most of the stuff in a few weeks time!

Like someone commented, that figure was probably inflated for the papers jor. Anyway, t'is not a lost cause. They'll have more kids and hopefully, a girl would be in the fray. So no cause for concern.

I am really not a pink person either. I find it a bit loud and fake. Though i own one or two pink things. LOL. I prefer neutral colors as well. I cant be bothered with buying stuff for another sex all over again. Neutral stuff with unisex clothes. LOL.

Was with a collegue in a hospital in Abuja some years back. Some guy had jacked up the doctor against a wall screaming "YOU TOLD ME IT WAS A GIRL. YOU TOLD ME IT WAS A GIRL!! I WENT TO PAINT MY HOUSE PINK ALL OVER!"
His wife had just given birth. Twin boys!!!
One of the most expensive hospitals in Abuja. Specialists in IVF at that.

LOL @ loud and Fake grin baby let me style your baby girl's room , you will fall in love with pink all over again.

My Aloy wheels are pink cool .... We are pink lovers... Even hubby wears pink tie ( Donald Trump style).

Dami, you should know this very well, there're variety shades of pink , PINK all the way. grin

Efe if you've ever bought and tried organic bamboo fabrics for your kids , you'll never wear anything else for them again... Oh my Gawd feels like cloud and no static come rain or shine.... and oh they are very very expensive compared to Carter's , mother-care and or M&S to mention few other brand...

One organic kids store here ( 0-12yrs) , common baby pink winter jacket is $400, the fur on the hood is real Mink and they're no different from that 'tardy' jumper in that photo ... So I don't doubt it atall.... Buying kids stuff can be addictive I must say esp when expecting new one.

As per her look , I don't think a new mom would look any better than that IMO undecided.... Reminds me of Duchees Katherine's first photo outside the hospital and paparazzi's & critics propaganda grin bout her not wearing makeup , like for real
