Judging from the 1st pic only, I wouldn't step into that aircraft. That is not a sanitary work environment for a complex piece of machinery carrying human lives. Even if they are just assembling it.

Don't you think you're a bit too harsh on an aircraft assembled by 15-year-olds wink

By the way, both mommy and daddy for the teen pilot are in full-time aviation, so I think they know what they're doing. So the aircraft flew.

Not about it not flying. About such a non sanitary environment. Its an aircraft, not a high school project. If it was a drone, then sure....have 50 kids in and around parts, manuals and drawings. The whole of Cessna's engineers are also in aviation....but Cessnas still crash, sometimes over the smallest component. Anyways.

Why don't you think it's Nigerian made?

The Igirigi is Nigeria's first mass produced indigenous Armoured Vehicle. It was launched in 2012, solely designed by the Nigerian army and built with technical assistance from Streit group.

Where is this mysterious factory where this 174 APC where manufactured? And why are we importing Streit Spartans from Jordan then? I have strong doubts about that, bro.

Update to this.

Direct hit to the Mbombe 6x6 tore into it's armour.

https://twitter.com/FebruaryChannel/status/1132232706211885056?s=20

This is terrorist propaganda. The Mbombe 6x6 has double armour, they never made it to the second Armour where the crew was seated, otherwise the vehicle would be smoking from within, which is clearly not the case here. BTW, who takes a vehicle to the battlefield after 3 days of being delivered, no training, no doctrine to effectively use the vehicle. They just saw a vehicle with wheels and they thought "Allah will protect us" and took it to war.

You don't drive an IFV/APC to war like that.. Foot soldiers should be protecting the heavy equipment, they form a long line, they move forward, the IFVs come behind providing overall field view and heavy fire support. An RPG is likely to be fired at 400m (and miss) then use smoke to conceal the vehicles while rifleman, platoon snipers and mortar teams assault the enemy position until those guys with RPGs are eliminated then move forward again.... But I guess no one goes to battle school in Libya.

You simply have to look at the first pic to understand what is wrong with the process. Sling or Cessna....are they not both light aircraft with mechanical parts? Even if it was supervised by PhD aeronautical engineers, its not anywhere near being best practice.

And besides that, each police station has two land cruisers which also come with spare tires each, those police land cruisers have the same tire size number as the pictured APC, so they cas as well use those as temporary replacement...

On one hand the politician who reported this had his own agenda (he wants local police reservists to be re-armed - They were disarmed by govt because local polititians used to have influence over them)

But then again on the other hand I see negligence on this police station, The spare tire on the back of the vehicle wasn't even used, plus, if a vehicles is going to stall for that long, shouldn't you avoid letting the vehicle sit on the good tires for long period ? by the time they "fix the bad tire", the rest of the good tires will all probably need replacement, and if one tire was a problem they gonna have 3 more ploblems after they solve the first one!

An Overview Of China’s Arms Exports To Africa

China’s Emergence as a Major Arms Merchant
Although there is an overall decline in global arms export to Africa over the past few decades, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) disclosed that arms sales decreased by 6.5%.

Years of economic growth spurt alongside China’s ongoing military modernization have enabled the country to emerge as a major player in the global arms trade.

Over the years, China has gained a foothold in Africa, since 2008, countries in Africa collectively purchased around 21 per cent ($3 billion since 2008) of China’s overall arms exports. And both Chinese and African officials promised to increase that figure.

Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), which examined the volume of international transfers of major weapons between 2008 and 2017, showed China’s arms exports represented 5.7 per cent of the world’s share of arms exports between 2013-17.

Most of these arms are sold to Northern African nations, constituting a 42 per cent of Chinese exports to the continent. An additional 29 per cent flows into Eastern Africa, and the remaining 29 per cent is divided between other African states.

In SIPRI’s research, the total arms imports decreased by 45% between 2009–13 and 2014–18. While the top five arms importers in sub-Saharan Africa were Nigeria, Angola, Sudan, Cameroon and Senegal. Together, they accounted for 56% of arms imports to the subregion.

Africa’s Arms suppliers, the numbers
In terms of suppliers, SIPRI stated that in 2014–18 Russia accounted for 49% of total arms imports to North Africa, the USA for 15%, China for 10%, France for 7.8% and Germany for 7.7%. Russia accounted for 66% of Algerian arms imports in 2014–18, compared with 90% in 2009–13. Algeria’s other chief arms suppliers in 2014–18 were China (13%) and Germany (10%). The USA (62%) and France (36%) were the main suppliers of arms to Morocco in 2014–18.

Chinese arms and ammunition sales to Egypt, the third largest arms importer in 2014–18, tripled (206%) between 2009–13 and 2014–18. Algeria – Egypt’s main rival accounted for 56% of African imports of major arms in 2014–18. Most other states in Africa import very few major arms.

China was the fifth largest arms exporter in 2014–18. Whereas Chinese arms exports rose by 195% between 2004–2008 and 2009–13, they increased by only 2.7% between 2009–13 and 2014–18.

Although China has established itself as an arms export leader, the overall value of its trade still pales in comparison to the United States, whose exports averaged $9 billion annually over the last ten years.

With this in mind, Chinese weaponry is increasingly attracting patronage mainly as a result of its cost-effectiveness. Although Chinese arms are often less advanced than those sold by other countries, in a report titled Chinese Military Power, the UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE observed that “Chinese arms are less expensive than those offered by the top international arms suppliers… [but still] have advanced capabilities.” For example, the low-cost K-8 jet trainer is estimated to make up 80 per cent of all jet trainer aircraft in Africa.

China’s continued peacekeeping operations as well as it’s setting up of a military base in Djibouti, on the Horn of Africa, have strengthened defence ties anchored on its increasingly strong economic relationship with African countries.

I answered this on ToT: I've mentioned a few times the importance of accounting for the running costs not just the buy cost of new platforms. When you don't so this is what happens! U/S or FUBAR equipment when your guys are in the ishyt! This KPS APC at a Baringo base, hotbed of cattle rustlers is still new yet grounded due to a busted ball joint. Someone in the KPS in charge of Operations should be jobless-publicly skulleffed and sacked!!
You may not know this but this NW corner of Kenya bordering Uganda and S Sudan is home to perhaps the most ruthless fighting mofos in Africa-guys like the Uganda Karamajong and Sudanese Toposa,in the last pic who'll wipe out entire cattle camps ambush cops and even try take on the army! They've always had a warrior culture and love of cattle. Before automatic weapons clashes weren't too dangerous with low casualties but things have changed.

Kenya's pastoralist communities have long considered cattle rustling a cultural practice, according to a 2011 Kenya Human Rights Commission report. In the past, warriors would wield crude weapons such as spears, swords and bows and arrows to steal livestock, but they rarely killed people.

Livestock is a symbol of wealth; stealing cattle was considered a means to elevate one's status.

But in the past few decades, in West Pokot, Baringo, Laikipia, Turkana and Samburu counties, in northwestern and central Kenya, cattle raids have escalated, fuelled by the proliferation of small arms smuggled into the country. A 2015 Kenya Police report indicates that cattle raiders' weapons originate from neighbouring countries with internal strife, particularly Somalia and South Sudan.
https://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2016/12/kenya-cattle-raids-deadlier-161212152024718.html

A GSU guy told me in the 90s the Toposa don't count body shots-they aim for the head and take trophies of their kills. An SPLA officer told me during the civil war they didn't chose sides but preyed on both the Northern Arabs and fellow Southerners.
Anyway,in '86 they shot down an army Puma near the Ethio border during in a combined army/GSU OP that pushed them deep into Ethiopia as far as the Omo Valley shown here. The Puma crash landed and all were rescued before it burned:4 KIA were taken while the Toposa lost a 100 with an estimated 50 who crawled away to die later in the bush.
In 96 a KAF Puma was shot down by Turkana in the rustlers fav hunting ground the Suguta valley, where temperatures can reach 50 c. Late 2012 20+ cops were ambushed and killed in a crossfire.

It is in the nearby hideouts where death lurks. The Suguta Valley, an arid part of the Great Rift Valley directly south of Lake Turkana, is distinctive as a natural death trap that would terrify even the best trained of modern militaries. Reckoned to be one of the hottest places on earth, it serves as a dreaded hideout for Pokot and Turkana raiders. At the heart of the valley, annual temperatures average 50°C, just eight degrees short of Libya’s notorious el Azizia plain.
https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2000070815/suguta-valley-is-every-law-enforcer-s-nightmare

Evacuating some of the KPS KIA.

It will take serious sociocultural shift and real judicial action including treating cattle rustling as a capital offence especially when lives are lost before things will change.

Budget is one thing, smart buying is another. Credit available to purchase arms is another. There are a number of reasons. It's not necessarily a "zero sums".

ALGERIA spends $10B on their MILITARY ( PROCURMENTWISE) this is the unclassified version
Nigeria spends $2B ( including procurement)
ALGERIA went through a far more bloody insurgency than NIGERIA did ( it wasn't uncommon for 900 people to have their throats slit in one night)
At the beginning of the insurgency ALGERIA was completely unprepared
WHAT changed?
Better leadership at both the Political and Military level
( Some would tell you grimly or the bad officers were either retired or were kia)
ALGERIA saw the side effects of the ARAB spring ( LIBYA/ Egypt)
They have made security a priority ( GUNS OVER BUTTER)
In short they have made it a #1 priority to be the most powerful nation in AFRICA.
Nigeria has not made SECURITY a #1 PRIORTY
Leadership at both the military and political have not demonstrated the go for broke mentality to rid NIGERIA of BH / ISWAP
Nigeria in terms of doing the needful when it comes to procurement is simply not there yet.
Our history has shown
Presidents from CIVILIAN BACKGROUNDS tend to spend more and procure more than Presidents from Military backgrounds
this is a fact.
We remain optimistic when we will get there.

Algeria is clearly a better run country. Economy, Infrastructure and Military. We export more crude and gas than them. Boko-Haram insurgency has killed more people in Nigeria than Algeria. Yet, every person in the political class and military in Nigeria seem really confused.

Better run : YES
Exportation of crude oil gas etc : yes
The Algerian Civil war has estimates as high as 200,000
Not everyone is confused especially in the military and the political class
Counter argument : You have to be given the opportunity to get there first and then be in a position to effect change
Appoint : Sharon Ikeazor Minister of Defence with absolutely no knowledge of Defence related matters drop her there come back two years later you won't recognize the place
Ditto : Col Ali ( rtd)
