The poor Mozambicans have borne the brunt of it. If they ask for help yet again and the Presidency says yes, whatever remains of the various heli squadrons' operational funds before financial year-end in March, will be completely gutted. Seeing this is almost an annual occurrence, they could fix their disaster management instead of buying expensive and unused French boats in a dodgy deal that has bankrupted the country.

I just checked, the Cyclone has been downgraded but the local government has school closed and emergencies on standby - just in case.

No, Damen Shipyards Cape Town (DSCT) is 51% owned by a local group which used to be called Farocean Marine, and 49% by the Damen Group.

Paramount partnered with Navantia, the Spanish company.

Incidentally, when Denel partnered with the Chinese, I told some people here that it didn't automatically mean they'd get the contract. Denel has lost many govt contracts before.

There's a question mark on that in the graphic. The gun is 76mm.
My Navy colleague isn't here today, though I suspect I've got the IPV graphic somewhere.

The boats were ordered in 2015, I have a photo of the Nigerian delegation's visit to Ocea in France. When they were ordered Karaduwa was still under construction.

The Nigerian Navy is building a bigger SDB, so, no sweat. There are also smaller John Holt Nigeria Patrol boats under construction. 20 units or so.

The shipbuilder that makes those patrol ships is specialised in aluminium construction. It is a bit of a different trade to steel shipbuilding, because the welding requires different techniques, machines and skills. This must explain why they aren't produced in Nigeria, where shipyards could definitely build ships this size.
Maybe that's an opportunity to buy a few from Ocea, and to negotiate the design with royalties as well as skills and techniques transfer, for more ships to be made at home.

Let's hope the bolded sentence comes to pass.
By the by, I wouldn't call a 24 metre and 35 metre patrol boat an IPV.

Nomenclature.

From the photo I posted, they are clearly Aluminum made, we don't yet build aluminum based ship's in Nigeria. Hopefully he is right and we get to build those sorts of vessels in Nigeria.

In Nigeria, we refer to boats that are 25 meters and above as Offshore Patrol Crafts. We don't have IPVs in our naval nomenclature.

The ones built in Nigeria are referred to as Seaward Defence Boats, NNS Karaduwa is approximately 40 meters, Seaward Defence Boat III which is currently under construction is 50 meters, yet they are referred to as Seaward Defence Boats.

For the IPV, DSCT initially offered this 51 metre FCS 5009. I'm told the final offering might have changed due to Navy misgivings about the size, on account of our rough waters.

Yeah, I noticed, I saw a video made by the sailors aboard NNS Unity. It was shot in the waters off the Cape, the seas were so damn rough, it was crazy man. Watching from my screen, it was both scary and intense.

The waves smashing against the ship violently. Mad I tell you.

It might be possible, that's why I'm saying we should wait and see. Me might or might not. It is my belief that we might.

Its a really nice package.
