PDP Alleges That South-west APC States Are The Most Indepted? by THEJOURNALIST: 7:30am On Aug 20, 2013 |
PDP raises the alarm over S’West states’ debts about 1 day Tweet 0 • Flays sealing off of Kalu’s property • Taraba leaders bicker over Suntai THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in the South West geo-political zone yesterday condemned what it called the tragic debt situation which the All Progressives Congress (APC) government was plunging the South West states. This happened just as some stalwarts of the PDP in Taraba State Sunday exchanged hot words over when and how the Acting Governor, Garba Umar, could become the substantive governor of the state. Also, the PDP through its acting National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tony Caesar Okeke also condemned the sealing off of a property belonging to former Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu for criticising the recent deportation of Nigerians from Lagos State, describing the development as “reminiscent of the infamous Decree No 4 of 1984. In another statement by its national auditor, Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju, the party called on Nigerians to be very wary of the actions and sayings of the APC governors and lawmakers on the issue of the local government autonomy. The PDP described the sealing off of Kalu’s property as a clear signal of the dictatorial and inhuman treatment to be expected from an APC controlled government. The South West PDP leaders who attended a reconciliation meeting of the party in Abuja disclosed at the weekend that the least indebted state in the South West at the moment allegedly owed at least N60 billion. They also confirmed that the PDP in the zone had begun serious strategic and coordinated moves to snatch Ekiti State away from the All Progressives Congress (APC) next year. To this extent, the PDP chapters in the six states said they had established a joint consultative forum that is charged with the responsibility of identifying and addressing critical political challenges for the party within the zone before the 2014 Ekiti governorship polls. Secretary of the forum and chairman of PDP in Ondo State, Ebenezer Omotayo Alabi, lamented that more than any other regime in the past, the present set of governors in the South West had thrown the zone into alleged huge indebtedness. According to Alabi,” the APC states in the Southwest are the most indebted states because of the bad economic policies in place. No state in the South West today is not indebted, the least indebted state in the South West is allegedly owing at least N60 billion”. Chairman of the forum and Ogun State PDP chairman, Adebayo Dayo, disclosed that the joint action was not targeted at only Ekiti governorship but the entire South West. According to him, the reconciliation exercise embarked upon by the national leadership of the PDP would only complement the peace process, which had reached an advanced stage in the South West chapters of the party. Dayo’s position was supported by his Oyo State PDP counterpart, Abdul Kareem Yinka Taiwo, who disclosed that a lot of house mending measures had already been taking to make the take over of South West by PDP in 2015 a success. “We are starting from Ekiti and Osun from where we will intensify the campaigns to take the remaining four South Western states in 2015. The South West PDP leaders expressed satisfaction that many aggrieved PDP members in the zone had embraced the reconciliation measures. Osun State PDP chairman, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwole, confirmed that the PDP had become more united in Osun at the moment than it was in the past. “We have made a declaration for 2014 and we have made it clear that we are sending Aregbesola out next year. They are counting on pockets of disagreements within the PDP but they will be disappointed because we are in very strong unity in Osun PDP now,” he said. PDP members in Taraba State yesterday exchanged hot words over the health condition of Governor Danbaba Suntai. A chieftain of the party, Alhaji Baba Adi, faulted a statement credited to Senator Emmanuel Bwacha that only the death of Governor Danbaba Suntai could turn the acting governor into a substantive governor. Senator Bwacha who represents Taraba southern senatorial district had in an interview stated that President Goodluck Jonathan only became substantive President after the death of former President Umar Yar’Adua and that the event at the national level was a precedent that should be applied to the Taraba situation. But Adi, in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday said the senator’s statement was a deliberate twisting of relevant provisions of the constitution, clarifying that the constitution mentioned permanent incapacitation and death for a governor to cease to hold office. www.theguardianmobile.com/readNewsItem1.php?nid=16529 |

How much has Yar'adua/GEJ and GEJ/SAMBO squandered since they came into power? when Madam due process (Ezekwesili) challenged the FG to an open debate on the mismanagement of the foreign reserves, we saw what happened! NOI (Ngozi) denied it, Okupe and Labaran denied it but Sanusi confirmed it stylishly. Up till date, the FG as refused to come out and tell Nigerians were they kept the monies or how they spent the monies. After depleting foreign reserves saved by OBJ, they still went ahead in a carnival/Christmas mood to seek monies to borrow from Governments/Private lenders e.t.c and yet we aren't seeing any meaningful impact of the monies been borrowed. We are not even talking about the Aids, Grants we get from foreign countries because we Nigerians do not see the impact of those monies! you turn on your radio, you watch your TV, you read Newspapers we keep hearing/seeing/reading billions of Naira awarded for construction of roads, dams, power projects blah blah blah and yet Nigeria is still at a rate of retrogression even with all our earnings! is that not gross mismanagement by The Party in Power (PDP)?? we know APC is borrowing monies and we are seeing the Impact of the Borrowed monies and if we decide to make APC governors account for the monies they borrowed, it will be written in black on a white Paper but can the FG under PDP say the same for themselves? |
