Dear Nairalanders,
Are you tired of watching nolloywood movies and feeling sorry for all the poor visual effects you see.Are you tired of seeing fake gun shots, fake fire and fake disappearance, unreal car accident, unreal explosions. If yes, then we have a common interest.

I have a question," it is DAT we don't have people who can do dis in this country or is it that people are not just interested?"

I want to believe people have plans like I have too in order to change the way our nollywood movies appear on our screen. This is 2013 and we still don't have confirm visual effects on our TV screens.

Dear Nairalanders who love films like Transformers, Avatar, Spiderman, Star Wars, The Mummy and rest. Join me as we start to reason together on how we will change the way Nigerians feel about nollywood movies. I have plans to start a visual effect company which will employ people and create jobs for people who are interested to change themselves as well as their country." Government Shud provide jobs I hear people saying" I laugh and I asked myself " will Jonathan start a gaming, fashion, tech company for us? No, cause you don't expect Obama to start up a company to employ people.

So my fellow Nigerian whom I have common interest with, ease reason together and solve part of our problem.

Let me hear you say something.

@ Briareos... I wonder too as I didn't get the point of the 'rant'.

@Villageboi. You don't get the point of the rant because it seems you don't watch TV's. I am just saying that how can we connect people together to solve the issue of visual effects in Nolly wood industry.

Lol, no I don't watch TV just as you discovered the Internet today abi? On every Naija website this rant has been written a million times... the question is "What are YOU doing about it?"

Your solution is "Let's reason together"... really? We can reason till the moon turns into green cheese; it won't make a difference. Such threads are a dozen a dime but what ACTUALLY happens?

... but it's still interesting conversation.

Are you a LEARNER...?
I want to believe you don't hang out in the 'art/graphics' section cos if you do there will be no touch of ignorance in your post.

What you're cultivating as an idea is a reality that has been in being long long ago.!

In fact, I know guys who have started out. Now they are persevering and living with the challenges of doing that kind of business in Nigeria.

Stick to the plan you already have like many others before you. When you become 'really good' then you will NEVER lack the highest paying gigs in 'Nollywood' & more... but and it's a big BUT - I reserve the right to go by what I think is really good and not by what you might think is really good. From experience, the possibility of our expectations of what is good could be a million miles apart - just saying.

However, you sound like someone on the right track; only time will tell. Looking forward to seeing what you CAN do later.

PS - will add in a few links when I get home, can't do jack on a phone.

You're right, 'execution defers'.
But I really hope you hang out here more often and see through a few threads just like the ones my oga posted.
Believe me, there are great animators and VFX creators in Nigeria even here on NL.
You'll find them or they'll find you.
I won't mention usernames.
Now.
Lets talk about the challenges we currently no of...
...they say "those who fail to plan plan to fail."
So its not bad if we consider the possible challenges (which some are already facing) and profer suggestions and recommendations. I hope it will help prepare you ahead.
The First Question is:
..."who is going to pay?"
I think its safe for us to begin our progressive discusion from that angle.

Spot on. One just has to look to see some really good stuff some Nigerian animators are doing and have been for a while... (though I personally thing vfx for 'live' character film is lacking)

@ OP, not sure if you've ever heard of or seen the web-series 'Mark of Uru'? Anyway here is an excerpt from an interview the animator gave -
"Actually, I started working on the script back in 2004 as a life feature film but my skill in animation then was not sufficient for the accompanying visual effects. But in 2007, I dusted the script again, modified and converted it to the animated web series."

The one thing you notice there is 'patience & time'. If we don't have that then we need not bother. And considering how long ago 'Mark of Uru' was it's still right up there with the very best of 'Nigerian' work.

prof800: The First Question is:
..."who is going to pay?"
Gbam... "Who is going to pay?" - Like a double-edged question. Who are the people willing to pay with TIME to become good enough that their work can stand anywhere on the planet and who are those that are willing to pay for those with the acquired skills?

EXACTLY.!
Re: An Idea For Visual Effect Company For Nollywood by darchyneer(m): 10:26am On Sep 02, 2013
People who are willing to pay with TIme definitely will be the younger generation who still as lot of time to fail and get up. To garner the skills that will create effects thqt will be suitable to watch on our TVs will take a lot of time and practice and failure.

Those who will pay for it will be film directors and movie production companies who have good stories that needs visual effects.
