The NSCDC cant be the sole protector of anything.. Do they have the power to prosecute?!

If so, why not just disband the Police and hand over their jobs to all the other security agencies around. E.G:

Traffic matters - LASTMA|TIMARIV| & All other such state traffic agencies..

Vehicle matters - FRSC|VIO

Criminal Matter - NSCDC

Fraud - EFCC

Domestic matters|misdemenours - Man-O-War

We can leave the Police and continue to use them to escort Money and Politicians..

1.they av the power to arrest with or without warrant and to prosecute

2. Police can't do it all alone

Half education they said, is more dangerous than illitracy, you must be an educated mediocre, a disgrace to knowledge. Next time, before you write any rubbish here, make sure you seek advice from scholars. Who told you that NSCDC has no legal right to prosecute? My annoyance with you, is that you knows nothing of what you are saying. Please buy and read papers. Advice is never a curse.

For many who dont know, one of the core mandate of thr NSCDC is protection of national assets and critical infrastructure. thats one of the reasons NSCDC was formes along with disastet and crisis management and protectiin of oil pipelines against thieves and vandals. they are a recommendable force in Nigeria and intellectually capable of carrying out their duties efficiently. So do your criticisms contructively and embrace them to do their work better. thats the only way forward

This is news use to think the primary duties of the civil Defence people was to help OBJ's misadventured third term fiasco. That the have legal powers to arrest with or without warrant ĄЙd̶̲̥̅̊ even prosecute offenders is surely a new one. I however suspect the new government directive ( if true ) will before too long be regreted by the goverment.
We all knew GEJ is deseprate but I never suspected he couldd be this steewpid , God save Nigeria .

Who is this person?!

In your haste to show off how well you can type curses and profanities, your under-developed brain didnt bother to spot the 'Question mark' at the end of the question 'Do they have the power to prosecute?'.. So asking a question now warrants insults from you abi?!

well, I think NSCDC is already a treat to NPF. they are approachable, less corrupt if at all, dont take bribe, are helpful in time of crisis (like natural disasters and traffic jam), help in conflict resolution via mediation, among others apart from their anti vandalism role. As for me, NSCDC all the way.

So now i know that the NSCDC has the power to arrest & detain a suspect without warrant.. Basically giving them a higher authority than the Nigerian police, because the Nigerian Police is only allowed to arrest and detain without warrant for 24hrs and can only exceed 24hrs in cases involving murder|death.

Now I repeat, whats the job of the Police then?!
Does this mean that the FG has lost faith in the Police?
How did the NSCDC end up having the power to prosecute?!

SO independent of the Police, the NSCDC can arrest|detain|interrogate| & prosecute a suspect. Thats like having two Police entities in the country. I think this is wrong. Look other agencies that are currently doing the the jobs of the police;

FRSC
VIO
LASTMA|TIMARIV
EFCC
ICPC
NSCDC
Nigerian Army
Nigerian NAVY

e.t.c..

So what are we still doing with the Police?! Why all this duplication of functions?!

My brother the fact that NSCDC has the power to prosecute does not mean the police should be scrapped, its expected that the security agencies should co operate and work in synergy in the interest of the nation. If the Govt decides to scrap the other agencies you listed above as carrying out the functions of the police do you think the police can cope with all the duties that all these agencies are doing ? Pls think about it.

Visit any NSCDC command office/station/division and ask/request for the 2007 amended ACT there you ll see all the CORE FUNCTIONS of NSCDC,so from your question about NSCDC having the power to prosecute, yes NSCDC has the power to arrest with or without warrant, detain, investigate and also carryout Prosection. This even most Police dont know.
