Hope you went through the link I posted? Make sure you get a GPA above 4.0 so that you can switch back to medicine. Avoid unnecessary distractions and focus on your books. You'll loose a year but its worth it. Biotechnology is a no no

You'll loose a year and start again from 100l medicine & surgery. This is mainly because you are switching from one faculty to another and there are some remedial courses you might have to go for. The truth is that it is not easy, but its worth the try considering the precarious situation you find yourself in .Start making enquiries about the change of department/faculty process in uniben, people might try to discourage you but pls forge ahead irrespective of what you hear.

Owww my pretty ghyft, please stay put and study biotechnology unless you have a future ambition in medical field.... taking a cue from my experience i was first admitted to study biology in 2005, i rejected the offer and waited in my 200L to change to medicine, it didn't workout, i wrote jamb again and finally got into med lab, am due to graduate this year while my friend and colleague that was admitted into same biology with me graduated in 2009, through with nysc and presently working in NNPC, ANOTHER IS EVEN THROUGH WITH MASTERS. Forget what people say course you studied does not matter in Nigeria, unless you wanna contribute your own quota in medical field just like me.

Pls let's avoid any misconception here. Biotechnology is actually a great course to study but not in nigeria. Biology, biotechnology, botany, biochemistry, microbiology are just different branches of the same tree. They all overlap in many areas; so in essence, to reject one is to reject all! & to accept one is to accept all! wink if your parents have the money to send you abroad, pls study biotechnology but as long as you are here in nigeria and nigeria still remains the way it is, pls look for something else to study. Don't get it twisted! wink

Pls spare me the hogwash! Employment opportunities for bioscientists in nigeria aren't as available as you would like us to think. Lecturer II stop feed your students with fantasy & tell them the hard truth.

LIES!!! The last time I checked no biologist/bioscientist in nigeria can be employed as a laboratory scientist in the medical field. Petroleum microbiology is just an area of research in environmental microbiology, no oil company in this country recognises or employs bioscientist to do any yeye environmental research for them, they only employ those in the biological sciences as safety professionals.

What I hate about my fellow bioscientists is that you swallow every rubbish your lecturers feed you hook, line & sinker without any evidence to show for it, you see things written/drawn in your textbooks and you believe that's how it will be in real life (Nigeria). Its not until I got into the labour market that I began to realise that not all we were told in school holds water in real life. The comment you wrote above shows you are just a student. Mr. Man better wise up! angry the nigerian labour market is not as rosy as your lecturers are painting it.
