PDP Certificate of Registration Missing (full title edited)

There is confusion in the Presidency over the whereabouts of the registration certificate of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission issues certificates of registration to all registered political parties.
But the Presidency, in the battle to secure its hold on the PDP, has sought, without success, for the certificate of registration of the party.

Sources in the Presidency told The Eagle Online that attempts to trace the certificate has been futile.

But sources said the Presidency has narrowed the search for the certificate to three political gladiators within the party.

They are former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido.

However, the source said it is very unlikely that the certificate will be with Obasanjo as he was still in Yola Prison in Adamawa State when the party was registered.

It was gathered that the belief in the Presidency was that the faction of the PDP that broke away on Saturday owing to complaints about the handling of its Special National Convention, must be banking on possessing the certificate to win the battle for the ownership of the party.

A source said that the decision of President Goodluck Jonathan to pacify the breakaway faction was because of the belief that with the certificate of registration in its possession, winning a court battle would be easy.

Abubakar and Lamido are part of the breakaway faction under the chairmanship of Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje.

Jonathan was said to have been humbled by the fact that without the certificate of registration in his kitty, he was fighting a lost battle against the breakaway faction that has headed to court to stop the recognition of the leadership of the party under Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

Abubakar, Lamido and some other governors had on Saturday formed the parallel PDP following their outcry of injustice during the Special National Convention.

They said over 50 candidates not favorably disposed to the leadership of Jonathan and Tukur were disqualified at the convention.

Some of the other governors who are with the new PDP include Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State and Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State.

The Presidency is said to have come to the conclusion that the certificate is with either Abubakar or Lamido.

However, majority of the members of the think-tank in the Presidency believe the certificate must be with Abubakar.

This was because he paid for the registration of the party and its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.

He was reported to have spent about N98 million for the certificate and the acquisition of the national headquarters.

A source in the Presidency said: “The President and his team know that they are fighting a lost battle if they do not have the certificate of registration with them.

“It is very obvious that the ambition of the President to seek re-election in 2015 is dead once the party is handed over to the other faction by the court.

“The next thing the president can do is to abandon his ambition and return to his village.

“Or how do you rationalize the President joining another party to realize his ambition.”

One of the sources said that Jonathan is also scared by the possibility of the breakaway faction of the PDP teaming up with other parties to form an alliance against the PDP for the 2015 election, even if the court declares the Tukur-led leadership as the authentic PDP.

The fear is that the breakaway PDP could team up with the Peoples Democratic Movement, in which Abubakar is believed to have a lot of influence.

And the alliance could also be extended to the All Progressives Congress.

A source said: “It is scary thinking of what an alliance of the breakaway PDP with the PDM and the APC would produce.

“It is very unlikely that the PDP would be able to muster enough support to defeat such an alliance.

“That is why it is almost certain that the President would find an amicable resolution of the crisis, even if it involves his having to step down his own reelection ambition and look like a hero in all of the crisis.”

As at press time on Tuesday, Jonathan was still meeting with a caucus loyal to him in the PDP to consider the various options available to him.

Though he has not declared his interest in seeking re-election, the body languages of both Jonathan and his lieutenants point to the fact that he is interested in retaining his seat in 2015.

Short memory or limited attention span? Did Atiku not contest in the 2011 PDP Presidential primary? Atiku was granted waiver to contest against all odds and hurdles placed by OBJ, Nyako and other PDP bigwigs. Being able to get the waiver confirms that Atiku understands PDP and has leveraged on his political sagacity to win battles within the party.

Its hard to make sense of this. Is Tukur INEC, or does he possess the certificate of registration? Atiku was granted a waiver to contest the 2011 PDP primary few weeks to the scheduled primary election, that INEC had to request for a three months postponement for the election.

While I doubt the veracity of this report!! Anyone of you who really thinks the Atiku faction can ever be recognised by INEC needs to have his brain re-examined!! So if a domestic aide of Jonathan suddey bolts with is INEC certificate of return for the presidential elections ,he suddenly becomes our president because of the possession of that document?

While I doubt this news? When did the certificate get missing? Who have been in the possession of this certicate all this while? Was atiku still in possession of this document even as the AC presidential candidate? If the mere possession of this document could confer authenticity on a faction why didn't he use it against Obasanjo in 2007?

Junk journalism! PDP was formed by different political support and pressure groups across the length and breath of country, hence the party certificate cannot be said to be in the custody of individuals.

The party is not a one man show and that's why Almighty Obasanjo could not hold the party to ransome in his quest for third term.

The only certificate in Atiku's custody is that of the Action Congress (AC) which he bankrolled. His decision to hold on to the certificate as a bargaining chip was what necessitated the birth of ACN, and which signaled the end of his political romance with Tinubu ...

If this news is true and with the revelation we are getting, then all is not well with Mr.President's second term ambition. If the certificate is found to be with Atiku, then Jonathan is done for good! Atiku would not want anything less than the Presidency and he could use that certificate in his possession to have his way! At this time,Jonathan better quit the stage now that the ovation is loudest.

But I think the North are too greedy for power.

Certificate of Registration has only the party name on it, while a Certificate of Return has name of the party, name of the elected candidate and title/office.

You're just a rambler or a cofused soul, or both...as your questions are just repeats of those already asked or answered in this short thread. The answer already given to your earlier question regarding 2011, could apply to your 2007 one as well, for all anyone cares.

But... Why I'm I not surprised? Instead of acknowledging it whenever you're owned, as with the answer to your question regarding 2011, you just move on to your next rabble rousing "project."

What a life.

Bruv, I disagree with you. Even though the PDP was formed by different interest groups, OBJ ran the party like it was his fiefdom. It took the spirited efforts of certain individuals including Atiku to abort OBJ's self-serving third term ambition.

If the certificate of registration is not with an individual(s), should we then assume it is in the custody of some alien(s)?

If you find it plausible to believe that the certificate of registration of the then AC was with Atiku because he bankrolled the registration, why do you find it difficult to believe that PDP's certificate of registration is not with Atiku since you have nothing to disprove the claims that he paid for the registration and also the party's headquarters? If your argument is that there are other money bags in the PDP when the party was birthed, so were they in AC when it was formed.

Oga this is very simple, Atiku can't use it against OBJ in 2007 because OBJ has the support of all all the PDP Governors then, and they have render Atiku useless and irrelevant then. So Atiku went back home and start strategising his plan and thinking of how to perfect it that was why the agreement in 2011 came in knowing fully that GEJ will never obey the agreement since every leaders always want re election. So now is the time since Atiku hae the support of some PDP Governors, The best GEJ ad his supporters in PDP could do is to form a new party and that will render them useless and irrelevant cos impeachment will be the first thing on the Agenda and APC will follow suit if they promise them Senate president and Speaker.

Only few weeks ago, you were among those who condemned the attempt by 5 members of Rivers State House of Assembly to take over the leadership of the house. But today, you'r excited about attempts by 7 governors to take over a party with 16 governors. That is the proper definition of HYPOCRISY, a very COMMON ailment in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the renegade PDP members do not qualify to called a faction of PDP. By law, a faction of a political party must emanate from divisions in the National Working Committee of the party. It is not enough for some losers to walk out of a convention ground and make bogus claims.

GEJ still has the support of the majority of the PDP governors!! If Atiku has the document with the power it is said to hold ,he would have used it against OBj.

The second point you raised, the opposition does not have the numbers yet to remove him even if they merge with the APC legislators.the process of impeaching a president is not so straight and has so many loopholes which GEJ will capitalise on with many kangaroo court judgements.

It is not practically possibly to impeach an african president !! It has never happenednhe will rather hand over to the army or transmute into a military dictartorship by sacking the elcted officials in a palace coup

Firstly, at no point have I pledged support to the group of 7 governors in either thought or deed, as you put it cheesy
But then, even if I had; my position will still be consistent, since it is your principal who stands accused of enthroning anti-democratic processes in both cases.

I hope my position is succinctly clear.

Atiku does know a thing or two about party registration certificates.

How Atiku Made AC Change its Name

The real reason why the Action Congress decided to change its name and everything about the party in the run up to the 2011 elections may not have been told.

According to ACN sources, Atiku along with some other notable members of the party played a major role in its formation and registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission and because of the strong confidence many of those other members had in him and his closeness then to former Lagos State governor, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, he had the privilege of having the party’s vital documents, including the registration certificate in his custody.

“All attempts to make him surrender the documents were rebuffed. When it became clear that he was not ready to return them, the party decided to go through that route. It opted for that even though it meant beginning afresh in the eyes of the law as the best option left to it, particularly as it could not be explained what his motives were either now or in the immediate future.

I am less concerned with PDP's COR whereabouts. I am only interested in separating facts from fiction. Atiku-led PDM was an integral part and a power bloc in the G-34. I am yet to read any post on this board with proof to disprove that it wasn't Atiku who paid for the party's registration and headquarters.
