The Rapture is a term in eschatology which refers to the “being caught up” discussed in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 of the Holy Bible. It is used to describe a future event where a group of people will suddenly disappear to be with Christ in the air, leaving behind some sets of people who will not be qualified to get captured away. It is also believed to be the opening phase of Christ’s second coming that was prophesied in the scriptures.

The biblical account of the rapture is worth examining in the light of contemporary technology. Proponents of the Rapture believe that constant resurgence and proliferation of false teachers, false christs and false doctrines are pre-rapture signs. Biblical scholars have pointed out that after the rapture, which is the first stage of Christ’s second coming, the world will experience a period of great tribulation orchestrated by a strange government. The word ‘strange’ is used in the sense that it will successfully unite the world under an autonomous government bringing the world under a central and powerful government. This government will be spear-headed by the Anti-christ, whom the scripture refers to as the beast (Rev 13:4-6), who according to prophet Daniel will through insidious flattery, deception and subtle destructions achieve his mischievous goals. The Anti-christ shall initially preach peace, turn people’s heart away from God, and then enforce the inhabitants of the earth to receive a mark either in their hands or their foreheads. See Revelations 13:16-18.

Let us run through the American Standard Version of Revelation Chapter 9 verses 1-10, where a prototype of the great tribulation period was given.
1.And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven fallen unto the earth: and there was given to him the key of the pit of the abyss.
2.And he opened the pit of the abyss; and there went up a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
3.And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
4.And it was said unto them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only such men as have not the seal of God on their foreheads.
5.And it was given them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when it striketh a man.
6.And in those days men shall seek death, and shall in no wise find it; and they shall desire to die, and death fleeth from them.

This was a revelation shown to somebody about 2,000 years ago. Can you think of how somebody that lived in that age will describe the current or contemporary technology? You can try to picture how someone of our present age will describe the age when electricity will travel only through vacuum. Studying verses 7-10, I perceive it fits a complete description of an helicopter.

7.And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared for war; and upon their heads as it were crowns like unto gold, and their faces were as men's faces.
8.And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as [teeth] of lions.
9.And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to war.
10.And they have tails like unto scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt men five months.

Pondering on these things, I began to realize that the mark of the beast referred to in the scriptures as 666 is not going to be a tribal mark or some sort of tattoo. It is going to be contemporary technology. KJV Revelation 13:16-18 states, “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads; And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.” Current happenings in the United States where American citizens have chips installed on some parts of their body for some citizenry rights buttresses that fact that 666 is going to be a technological tool that will be used to monitor and control the world’s activities; eating, travelling, buying, selling etc.

WARNING: Christians should be watchful as we all know that unfolding events are signs of the last days. In the world of today, corruption is prevalent. Fornication is no longer a sin amongst the youths and adultery is the order of the day. Lying has become a lifestyle and worldliness is an insidious monster creeping into our places of worship. Being born-again is a common thing because every Tom, Dick and Harry is born again. People confuse prosperity for holiness, charisma for character and superficial humility for holiness. These are all indications that the love of many shall wax cold, but the scripture only promises salvation to whomsoever shall endure to the end.

One of my lecturers was quoted to have said that the African continent is hindering the rapture call. He explained that should the trumpet sound and the Anti-christ decides to enforce the no-mark no-selling or no-mark no-food law, it may not work in Africa. His reason was that our continent is not yet wounded up in technology and there might be defaulters who will NOT take the mark and still transact business. We cannot however rule out the possibility that the little technology we’ve experienced in Africa is enough to account for everybody’s movement. The world has become a global village and Africa is no longer taking the back sit.

Finally, the scripture admonishes Christians to watch, pray and be prepared at all times. If you haven’t given your life to the creator of the world who redeemed us unto himself today, I dare say you have a short time. After the rapture, then will be a time of great tribulation; a period of woes, troubles and catastrophes, worst than the period of Adolf Hitler’s anti-Semitism.

“Take ye heed, watch and pray; for ye know not when the time is.” Mark 13:33.

@Provfesor....The mark of the beast is not technology...Please study Rev 13 which you referred to carefully and ask God to give you understanding of what you study.

There are 3 things here, the mark, the name of the beast and the number of his name. Tie this to Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a[a] thousand years.

I ask you, what about the grandpa in the deep recess of Africa or Asia or South America who will never come in to contact with technology, that means they will not be affected by the technology used to monitor the world. Not sure if you were aware of the rumour going about around march 2013 that the US is deploying a chip as part of Obamacare and all that crap. Even then on this board, some who were more intune refuted (and I was one of them). You need to go and do more research and praying that God should give you understanding.
