The Federal Government has finalised plans to create three new automobile clusters and training centres in Lagos, Anambra and Kano states as part of the National Industrial Revolution Plan and Industrial Skills Development Programme.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, disclosed this at the ongoing Industrial Training Fund 19th Biennial Training Conference on Skills Acquisition and Job Creation. Aganga re-affirmed the commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration towards tackling unemployment through the implementation of an integrated, industrial skills and manpower development programme.
He, however, said that the Federal Government had no plan to create a new agency for industrialisation as being reported in some sections of the media but was considering transforming an existing agency under the supervision of the ministry (with a related mandate) to drive the implementation of its industrialisation policies, in line with an agreement reached at a stakeholders’ meeting on the NIRP about two months ago.
The Minister said, “As part of our National Industrial Skills Development Programme and the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan, the Industrial Training Fund is collaborating with Brazil to develop three automobile training centres and clusters across the country that will meet international standards.
They are: Lagos (Ibadan Zone), Nnewi (Aba Zone) and Kano, Kaduna zone automobile clusters. The automobile training centres will train Nigerians in auto maintenance and spare parts production.
“For us to successfully diversify our economy, create jobs and generate wealth for our country, industrialization remains our only hope for the future. In order to achieve this, we need to build strong institutions to drive our industrialization process just as it was done in other industrialized countries.”
He added, “The Federal Government is already working on how to reduce the cost of governance by reducing the number of government agencies, so what we proposed at a stakeholders’ meeting on the NIRP, held two months ago, was to transform to an existing agency within the ministry.

Mr minister, have you forgotten Project Development Institute, PRODA at Enugu? If the minister is serious he needs to revamp that institute by injecting more funds, so that more people can be trained there.

Such funds can also help for more projects and further development of already approved prototypes. We often hear about government's interest in opening new establishments without providing funds for ones established decades ago. It's definitely not the way a serious country goes in it's quest for advancement in technologies.

That is a nice idea. But noone is interested in that but the execution.

Imagine what this can do to the development of the trade in Nnewi, Onitsha, and Aba?! I hope is fully utilized by Nigerians in everywhere they're placed. Some lazy dunces now will sit and complain what govt did not do rather than take up this chance and make it gold.

Why is the FG creating automobile clusters when they haven't even bought vehicles from the automobile clusters that exist or encouraged nigerians to do so?

If you know what is happening with the sugar master plan, you'll be impressed by this guy. Companies are scooping up land for sugar plantations like they are oil fields. He is working on many other areas and the evidence of success is there for all to see.
