DIn view of the many calls for the declaration of the full disclosure of the salaries and allowances to the National Assembly; Someone has decided to take the bull by the horns. Find below an excerpt from Tunde Fagbenle's column in Punch of September 15, 2013.

Taking the National Assembly to court

A reader, “utterly disgusted” by the scandalous amount of money being drawn by our Federal legislators believes moaning about it is useless.

And so, Sope Durodola has decided that a court action by concerned citizens, whose tax-paying money goes into the pockets of the legislators, is possible recourse. “I believe there are millions of other people out there just like me,” he says. Sope wants “the judiciary to compel the Revenue and Fiscal Mobilisation Commission to benchmark salaries for the legislature based on what the minimum wage for the public service is and/or based on best practice from other democracies around the world.”

Writing from durosope@yahoo.com, he seeks like minds to join hands with him to prosecute the “citizen action”, attributing the continued malaise in the society to the docility of the middle class. Good luck to Sope.

What do you guys think?

It's high time the salaries/allowances of these lawmakers be drastically reduced. They ought to go back to "part-time basis".How will these guys be the highest paid legislators in the world considering the standard of living in Nigeria..Damn!Positive changes ought to be carried out..The cost of governance in this country is outrageous...

Nigeria politics is now do or die because of the unaccountable and excess money involved. The politics of the western world is not much attractive due to the scrutinity and accountability in their Government. I think we the masses have to take the bull by the horn to curtail the atrocious salaries of our politicians because all these plotical crisis, merger parties and co is for power and money only.

Sometimes I wonder the kind of spell is mankind under. Until the salaries of the political offices are reduced to nothing, most the aspirants will continue to go there based on selfish reasons.
The worst part is that they always steal the funds meant for the innocent public too... and the law enforcement bodies are always selective in terms of justice...

such a huge shame.
