What's Wrong In A Woman Putting Sand In Her Husband's Grave During Burial? by Nobody: 11:31pm On Sep 20, 2013
Barely, would someone outside the tribe of Igbo comprehends or understands the above question. In the traditional Religion of the Igbos...though not practiced everywhere, it is believed that a woman commits sacrilege when she pours in sand in her husband's grave during burial. It is customary that before a befitting burial can be achieved, the family and loved ones of the deceased must ensure that this particular actitity must be performed as an honour and good gesture, but the traditional religion fiercely forbids the wife of a decease to do so.
This has been an Abraham to crisis, violence and lives are unnecessary terminated. Schools and other christian religious establishments has been named after the unnecessary deaths of people who fights for even their own rights.
It seem to be a childish war between Christians(mostly catholics) and traditioners, yet one that is always ready to activate violence and destabilize peace and harmony in the society. The law allows for people to be buried and honoured according to their faith...but its not even a surprise as violation of the law has become rampant. It is believed traditionally that a woman unites with hes husband even at death when she exercises such activity like pouring sand in his grave and so its to the detriment of the living and spiritually dangerous thus depriving them much against the woman. Though its obvious but these barbaric practicers have not stand out to speak clearly on the reasons why such Igbo tradition should still exist even when the law abolished it.
So, I want to ask. Is anything wrong in a woman honouring her beloved husband and exercising his right by pouring sand in his grave during burial....what's the reason for Igbos to hold on to such barbaric tradition..would you allow your mother or relative to indulge in such practice?
