Ribadu Is An Inveterate Liar, The Most Corrupt Police Officer I Know-okiro by bubadaniel13: 12:52pm On Sep 24, 2013
A former Inspector-General of Police and Chariman of Police Service Commission, Sir. Mike Okiro, has replied former EFCC Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu over a recent statement credited to him when he said the former police boss was behind two failed assassination attempts on his life and not Ibori.

Okiro in a statement released in Abuja described Ribadu as an inveterate liar.”

It would be recalled that Ribadu had on Friday in a London court while being cross-examined by both the defence and prosecution during the hearing on the confiscation of assets of former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori at the Southwark Crown Court, London. He had described the former IGP as “ a despicable human being; the most corrupt police officer I have ever seen.” Continuing, he said, “He made my life hell. He withdrew my official car and police security.”

Reacting to his assertion, Okiro stated that Ribadu’s allegation that he withdrew his official car and police security was far from the truth.

He said, “Nuhu Ribadu went on a course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS. He was not posted out of EFCC. His Deputy, Ibrahim Lamorde was acting and holding forth. The vehicle(s) he was using belonged to EFCC where he was Chairman for about six years and could not have been withdrawn by the Police. The policemen he used as his security were those posted permanently to EFCC.

“Therefore the Inspector-General of Police had no role in their internal daily deployment. Thirdly, Nuhu Ribadu was on course as Assistant Inspector-General of Police and statutorily had to maintain his paraphernalia of security details. Nigerians will remember that Nuhu Ribadu once caused a newspaper publication to be made to the effect that he was attacked and shot on his way to NIPSS but was saved because he was driving a bullet proof vehicle and the attackers could not stop him. He said that he suspected a retired Inspector-General of Police who had been monitoring him. I was then serving as IGP.

“ I was angry that a serving Assistant Inspector-General of Police or even any AIG at all or a VIP, for that matter, was shot at and I was not briefed. I called him several times to give me details but he refused to pick my calls. I then sent signals to Commissioners of Police (CP) FCT Abuja, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Plateau, the likely state commands where the incident could have taken place.

They all replied that there was no such incident in their commands. Since I could not reach him, I addressed a press conference where I stated that his claim of attack was false. I took that advantage also to ask him publicly to come up with details of the day and time and where the incident took place. Nuhu Ribadu never came up as directed. For him to turn round now and say that I was involved “in attempts to assassinate him demonstrated the double speak for which he is shamefully known. Lies, lies and lies. He was an Assistant Inspector-General of Police under me. Why must I want to assassinate a subordinate officer?

Reacting to Ribadu’s assertion that he was present when James Ibori nominated Okiro to become IGP, Okiro stated that he was appointed on merit and seniority.

“Two years ago, after my retirement, Nuhu Ribadu told some of his friends that he did not obey my instructions and directives when I was IGP because he had been pencilled to take over as IGP from IGP Sunday Ehindero and he had been factored and positioned for the office when I came and usurped it, as if I appointed myself IGP or as if he himself is God to determine the course of nature.

“He claimed that he regarded me as an interloper who took the position reserved for him and so despised me and whatever I stood for” he added.

Okiro who flayed Ribadu’s allegation said he was the most corrupt police officer he has ever seen and wondered why he should denigrate his senior in such manner, asserting that it shows he was ‘indisciplined

While Ribadu was not without faults of his own, events which played out at the time validate the view that Mike Okiro and Farida Waziri were corrupt elements fostered on Yar'Adua by a larger-than-life character called Ibori, for self-preservation above all things.
One would have to be a truth denier to ascribe even an ounce of credibility to this belated effort at rewriting history.

Revealed: Aondoakaa Received N40 Million bribe to Extend Okiro’s Tenure

Nigeria ’s Attorney General and Minister for justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa allegedly pocketed about N40 Million to extend the tenure of former Inspector general of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro and appointed him Chairman of the Halliburton probe panel.

Okiro’s tenure expired in June 2008 but was extended till July 24, 2009 when he retired from the Nigeria Police.

Sources told Pointblanknews.com that the setting up of the Halliburton Investigative Committee headed by former IGP, Mike Okiro was after all a ploy to extend the tenure of the retiring police chief after a N40 Million bribe was alleged to have been received by the Attorney General and Minister of justice.

NDIC indicts Okiro over bank liquidation

According to NDIC, Okiro allegedly contributed to the bank's insolvency by failing to repay credits of more than N166 million granted him between 2000 and 2001. NDIC said the loan was extended to the police chief to enable him finance a pipeline-laying contract, which he won from Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) using his family business enterprise, Hekiro Nigeria Limited, to obtain the loans.

Police N21 Million Scam: Mike Okiro, Ehindero and Onovo named

Acting Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro, his immediate predecessor Sunday Ehindero and several other serving law enforcement top brass have been implicated in a cash scandal currently rocking the police.

We can authoritatively report that John Obaniyi, a commissioner in charge of finance at the police headquarters, and a principal target of investigations into the source of N21 million seized while being moved out of Police Headquarters in Abuja, has named Okiro, Ehindero and others in shady financial deals.

Obaniyi was recently indicted for corruption by a panel set up by Okiro.

Former IG Okiro Ordered To Pay N50 Million Over Shady Land Deals

An Abuja high court today ordered former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, to pay N50 million as well as accrued interests over a landed property he bought under the table while he was head of the Nigerian police. Mr. Okiro was not in court as Justice A.M. Talban gave the ruling earlier today.

In 2008, Mr. Okiro bought a parcel of land at 795 Cadatral Zone in Gudu District Abuja from Igwe Godwin Madu who is also the executive director of Goddson West Africa. Mr. Okiro used his front company, Hekiro Limited, in the land deal.

SaharaReporters learnt that Mr. Okiro had agreed to pay N130 million for the land. However, after paying a deposit of N70 million, he refused to redeem the balance. “In short, he started flexing muscles as the IG and tried using his office to harass Chief Madu into foregoing the outstanding amount,” said a source familiar with the deal.

Okiro's corruption was so well documented that only someone playing the role of an ostrich or President Jonathan, who has a thing for unscrupulous characters, will deny what is painfully obvious.

The fact that Okiro's soft landing, after losing his job as a side-kick to Tukur (the PDP chairman), was to be his appointment as head of the Police Service Commission, goes to show how unserious the current administration is in its fight against corruption.

Okiro Is A Liar - Ribadu

There is no let-up yet in the open war between former Inspector General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro and former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

A statement released by the media aide to Ribadu, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, said that Okiro lied when he reacted to the statement of the former EFCC boss that an ex-governor of Delta State, James Ibori currently serving a jail term in London, facilitated his(Okiro) becoming an IGP.

The statement said "Our attention has been drawn to the shameless lies a former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro recklessly spewed to the media on Monday. The cause of Mr. Okiro's anger, the statement in a London court by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu that James Ibori was instrumental to his emergence as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) needs no further equivocation as it was an open secret to everybody in the government circle then."

Ribadu's media assistant further said "If Okiro is now denying this in public, there is no way he can deny this open secret before a number of people, including an influential former governor from the North-Central and a couple of other people who helped facilitated his selection by Ibori.

"It was this same shameless method of desperate lobbying that Okiro, a chronic political jobber and sycophant of the first order, used in getting subsequent appointments as Chief Security Officer to the PDP national chairman and later, regrettably, as the chairman of the Police Service Commission.

"The assertion by Okiro that Ribadu wanted to be the IGP further underlines the former IGP as a perennial peddler of falsehood. The truth is Nuhu Ribadu's focus then was consolidating on his modest efforts at the EFCC, especially at a time when he was working on high-profile cases, including that of Okiro's godfather, James Ibori.

"We, therefore, challenge Okiro to name those people he called Ribadu's friends that narrated the fictitious story of Ribadu's interest in becoming the IGP to him.

"The highest distortion in Okiro's statement, however, is his attempt to rewrite the well-known and widely documented assassination attempts on the former EFCC chairman, with his Okiro's hands in it all.

"It is ridiculous that Okiro is now desperately trying to paint himself in another colour after all the schemings he orchestrated.

"At the time, the trio of Michael Aondoakaa, the former Attorney General of the Federation, Okiro and Mrs Farida Waziri, the former EFCc chairman, had created a hell out of the world for Ribadu. The only sensible thing to do was to avoid these characters and seek solace somewhere else. This, notwithstanding, it is a blatant lie that Okiro telephoned Ribadu several times and he did not answer his calls.

"What Ribadu and other Nigerians easily recall was an elated Okiro rushing to address the press to deny something he knew nothing about. The bullet-riddled car Ribadu drove during that unfortunate life-threatening incident is still there, if Okiro or any other person would want a further proof.

"On the issue of withdrawal of Ribadu's personal security, if Okiro is suffering from selective amnesia, let him be reminded that that was exactly what he did. He also redeployed Ibrahim Lamorde out of EFCC to Bauchi State Police Command as Area Commander in Ningi. He did the same thing to other top EFCC operatives that Nigeria spent a fortune to train as investigators. One of them suspected to be close to Ribadu was even locked up for months in police custody. This also belie his statement that, as IGP, he could not have altered the postings of police within the EFCC.

"We would like to alert the retired IGP that he is dancing naked in the gallery as his nasty record is something known to a lot of people. A man who clearly reeks of corruption, is Okiro denying that he is corrupt when we all know he cannot account for the source of the wealth he used in building a shopping mall in Jabi, a hotel with casino in Lugbe and a private school, all in Abuja?

"This is not to mention his properties in Lagos and Port Harcourt, while he was still serving in the police. If a public servant, one tasked with the responsibility of protecting the lives of Nigerians and instilling discipline in the police, amassed such wealth, what gut does he have to talk of corruption?

"It is a national tragedy that a man of such flawed character has now been appointed to head an important institution like the Police Service Commission. May God rescue Nigeria," the statement read.
