'Shots fired' near US Capitol

Shots have been reported near the US Capitol in Washington DC, with police locking down offices in the area.

US Capitol Police said a police officer was injured, the Associated Press reported.

Journalists, congressional staffers and tourists were ordered to take shelter at the US Capitol Complex at 14:28 local time (18:28 GMT).

The notice said gunshots were reported at the capitol, the BBC has learnt.

In an email, the US Capitol Police advised everyone to "close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows".

The situation has been handled.Capitol Metro Police have been deployed.The Senate Hart Building and Supreme Court were previously on lock down.but it's been lifted.

It was said that a female driver was being chased by a cop around the white house.shot's were fired fterwards.The cop got injured,no status yet on the degree of injury.Obama has been briefed of the situation and things should be back to normalcy soon as the situation has been well contained.
