For many Nigerians finding a job to do at home or even business opportunities doesn’t come easy. They always have this impression that businesses must require huge capital outlay to start something and that you must have a shop or office to do a business or even work. That is not always the case as a few people have found ways to earn an income online and offline from home in Nigeria. If you’re a Nigerian looking for a job or a stable source of income you may want to look at these 5 for a start.

5 Income making opportunities for Nigerians
While I’ll recommend these income making ventures to Nigerians I’m also careful to state that they require some work to make anything meaningful of them. See them as real jobs or businesses although you’re running them from home.

Freelance Writing opportunities for Nigerians
There are some Nigerians who make a decent income from writing articles as freelance writers on some contractor websites such as elance and odesk. What do these websites do? They create a market place for people who know how to write to meet with clients who are looking for writers. You get paid a particular amount of money per article based on the agreement reached with the client and there is no limit to how much you can make as some people earn as much as $2000 per month writing not more than 100 articles.

Events Planning and management for Nigerians
Events planning and management is a growing industry in Nigeria. Not very many people are making money from it anyways but that is due to our believe that we don’t really need professionals to help plan our events including weddings. How wrong indeed is this mindset because expert event planners can actually save you a lot of cost and headaches in planning your events especially weddings. A few Nigerians who know how to market this service are smiling to the bank even though they work from home.

Online Marketing for Nigerians
Businesses are always looking for ways to market their products and services. These days the online medium is becoming the fastest and least expensive ways for service oriented businesses to reach local markets online using blogs, social networks and business directories. However this line of work needs time and patience to master but the rewards are quite impressive overtime ask Linda Ikeji and Bella Naija for proof that it works.

Tailoring as a Business Venture
If you know how to sew decent native attires nothing stops you from using your balcony or a room in your flat as your base. Word spreads fast if your work is excellent you won’t have to do too much marketing as people who see the wonderful works you do will connect with you for business.

Blogging
These days blogging is becoming an all comers affair. Almost everyone has a blog but very few people know what to do with it when it comes to making money online. While this is closely related to online marketing there’s a slight difference in that blogs are simply dedicated information sharing websites for periodical entries. See them as an extension of magazines or a person’s voice online the only difference is that a blog can build an online community with which the blogger in question can connect with real people online through comments and emails. These presents a money making opportunity in form of adverts or sale of products that appeal to that audience.

If you’re a Nigerian and you’re unemployed, try out any of these opportunities or better still look inwards for more ideas that could lead to setting up a profitable venture for yourself. Best luck!
