The truth be said. doctors in this country have left why they went to school but are now trying to compete, controll ,command other proffesions in health system.they were thought in school that they are gods in the hospital poluting their minds thereby bringing problem in the health sector. They are now on strike cos of the federal govt attention to JOHESU and are using all these their rubish demands as a cover.remember the NMA chairman said it point blank that they will go on strike if fed government grant JOHESU,s request. Going abroad to do residency in other to come out as a good doctor they said. then you will be working with a nurse , lab scientist, pharmacist, physiotherapist and other health workers that are not good and competent cos they didnt go abroad for training. cos for them why nigerian doctors are not good is cos they didnt go abroad for training. if the fed government give in to this they should be ready to send that anaesthetic nurse, peri operation nurse midwives, psychiatric nurse , lab scientist, physiotherapist etc to abroad to come back good otherwise they will be messing up the good works of the "good ,competent and abroad trained doctor" nigerian doctors should know that health care is all about team work.No matter how good C ronaldo plays and scores without good midfielders to give him ball he cant come to the defence and pick the ball to dribble pass the whole opponents eleven players to score.without good defenders he can score one and concede five and end up loosing.mind you messi is the world best footballer but not the captain of barcelona cos they know that its all about team work. doctors please accept reality you are just as important as the nurse,@pharmacist and others 1 Like |

ketoprofen: Who the hell told u doctors are on strike because Of JOHESU? My friend all those doctors demand are baseless ,and weightless a thing to embark on strike. like i said they are just using them as cover up. too much of everything is bad.this their attitude has draged them to the mud in lagos state after what fashola did to them. they cant even talk again cos they have disgraced themselves. i wish fed govt will ignore them until they are tired.remember the tortoise said that when pandemonium comes up that he will kill a pregnant woman when it was time people that are heavy stampeded a pregnant woman and tortoise was arrested.NMA chairman said it that they will go on strike if fed government listens to JOHESU and that is what is happening |

Op, You made a very valid points anyway but my loyalty lies with my colleagues though. If they gain anything from the strike, surely I will encourage every health workers to strive for theirs. That is team spirit I presume. |

Dr young: Op, You made a very valid points Dr young you are a true proffessional. you are being very objective than sentimental unlike ketoprofen that belives in so far its the doctors and am a doctor they are right.we in the health team should know that we need each other, we compliment each other and thats will bring peace .let me give an instance, there was a meeting of all the union excos and the medical diretor and admin.there every union was talking about their demands and the chairman of NANNM (nurses ) talked about how bad the nurses changing room is with no necessary funitures. the chairman of ARD stood up and said that he is insupport of what the nurses are asking for. that he had a reason to use the nurses changing room and to say the truth that mangement should as a matter of urgency attend to their demand. thats harmoney thats maturity and sincerity.so let the right and left hand wash each other. |

Re: Nigerian Doctors And Other Health Team by Nobody: 2:23pm On Oct 04, 2013 |
Dr young: Op, You made a very valid points know that besides resident doctors other workers are entitled to study leave after 3 or 5years in service. most govt workers are lazy. get a copy of public service rule . |

As in outside the country with pay, I doubt it. Driving a new engine with faulty body parts because the engine believe that it is the most important. Just analysing the whole thing though. I did rather work in a world class hospital with the best team that know their onion where people know and anticipate what they are suppose to do and do it perfectly than a team full of malice and poisonous atmosphere in the care of patients, where every warrior is out waiting for the other to make a mistake and then your name will be SORRY. ketoprofen:Residency is both a training and a job. You don't do such in isolation unless you're in pathology where teamwork is usually or often non existence. |

Dr young: Residency is both a training and a job. You don't do such in isolation unless you're in pathology where teamwork is usually or often non existence. u dont evn understand me. D foreign training/job aint gonna last forever, is it? Hospitals have been sponsoring their residents to go abroad for training after which they cum back to 9ja and teach d upcoming ones. . And who told u pathology residents dont train n work @ d same tym? Residency is same in all depts |
Re: Nigerian Doctors And Other Health Team by ketoprofen(m): 11:18pm On Oct 04, 2013 |
chuksbogus: forgive me if i u consider anything inflammatory but dat linking of nard strike with johesu was way off the point. Doctors dont compete with oda health workers for attention anywhere, but unfortunately oda health professionals want d health sys to look like a market place as if we all share one husband. Point is: Every health worker - from doc to orderly shd be in a class of his/ her own in accordance to his/her job specifications. Dat is, each person shd strive to improve on his field of study other than aspiring to be lyk another. Gud night |

Dr young: As in outside the country with pay, I doubt it. Driving a new engine with faulty body parts because the engine believe that it is the most important. Just analysing the whole thing though. i am convinced just as many other civil servants u do not know anything about civil service rule regarding study leave. every civil servant is entitled to study leave after spending at least after 2years. For example if u ve spent 3 to 5years you are entitled to at least a year study leave. resident doctors are demanding for their right. i know a lot of allied health workers who have been enjoyed the study leave. for example in ubth all stem cell transplant team(haematologist, nurses and med lab scientist had training in oversea. the fact is that if resident doctors who later become specialist or consultant are trained and hospital are equiped, allied health workers and nurses must be trained as well. in end the training would benefit all. |

Laalamed:I am advocating for a good trained team, just as you wrote I don't know much about the civil whatever cos I was never employed by the govt anyway. |
Re: Nigerian Doctors And Other Health Team by chuksbogus: 4:50am On Oct 06, 2013 |
Laalamed: Laalamed. yes you are entitled to study leave after 2yrs.the issue is not wether they earn it armtwisting the government to send them abroad. 2ndly what is a resident dr doing in a teaching hospital ? is he not a student and studying with pay? so you are saying that without going abroad to do the residency that wont come out good? so why our health system is not good is cos the staff are not trained abroad? this whole issue will futher threating the needed harmoney in health sector cos if abroad training be the case other health team member must be sent too. the truth is that the drs always want to be i show supremecy towards other healthcare team instead of being a team player. none of the teams can work in isolation .NMA chairman once called nurses, pharmacists ,lab scientits allied health workers meaning what? these are different proffessions with acts and decrees backing them, with different departments not that they are under clinical services. we should leave this battle of supremecy and distinguish ourselves in our different proffessions and earn respect not to force respect.we are a team i buttress. |
Re: Nigerian Doctors And Other Health Team by Nobody: 5:35am On Oct 06, 2013 |
chuksbogus: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allied_health_professions Allied health professions are health care professions distinct from nursing, medicine , and pharmacy. you can figure out who are allied healthcare workers. resident doctors are fighting for funding and enabling policy for residency training as it is practice worldwide . see the link; en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residency_(medicine) presently there is no policy for residency training in nigeria. besides study abroad had been the practice in 80s and early 90s for residents. so in essence nard is saying it should be re-introduced. other health workers have the right to be trained because public service rule encourage it. members of johesu should just seek the opportunity. all hospital workers need further training locally or abroad but the path to training is different. residency is a temporary employnent while other workers are permanent. |
