Qazi Nazir Ahmad Hanafi - An Afghan Lawmaker and former Judicial Head.

Qazi (Judge) Nazir Ahmad Hanafi is Herat people’s representative and head of Legislative Commission in Afghanistan’s parliament.

From Hanafi’s point of view combating child marriage as an anti-Islamic action and he adds that Islamic normative texts such as Quran, Hadith, and Prophet Mohammad’s quotes support child marriage. He emphasizes that taking any step against child marriage undermines Islam and is considered to be an unforgettable sin.

Mr. Hanafi believes that because Prophet Mohammad got married with 9 years old Aisha, as Muslims we should follow his way. However, if we compare Prophet and Aisha’s life with the treatment of today’s men and their wives, we get to know that Prophet Mohammad had mercy with Aisha and treated her as a child. He provided opportunities for Aisha to gain knowledge and promote her educational status.

Furthermore, Prophet did not have sexual relationship with Aisha until she reached to complete physical and mental maturity. Whereas, contemporary when a man marries a young girl, he expects her to appropriately do all the house responsibilities; otherwise, she would face domestic violence and misbehavior. Unlike Prophet, today’s men don’t wait until the girl reaches to her physical and mental maturity and getting ready for the sexual relationships.
