FG Approves Establishment Of Transformer Assembly Plant In Nigeria by awodman: 8:33pm On Oct 08, 2013 |
The head of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure stated this. The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) said the Federal Government has approved the establishment of a local transformer assembly plant, to address the nation’s epileptic power supply. The Executive Vice Chairman of the agency, Mohammed Haruna, announced this on Monday while addressing newsmen at the on-going 8th Abuja International Trade Fair. Mr. Haruna said President Goodluck Jonathan gave the directive as part of efforts by the current administration to create more jobs and reduce capital flight. According to him, the president’s desire is to focus on renewable source of power supply with emphasis on small hydro sources of power supply. He said NASENI had developed local capacity for the production of Small Hydro Power Turbines. “A small hydro power turbine has been successfully designed, fabricated and installed and is currently waiting commissioning at Ikeji-Ile, Ijesha, Osun State,” he said. He said the participation of NASENI in the fair was due to the success recorded by the agency during previous exhibitions. The official said the products displayed by the agency during the previous exhibitions had great impact on buyers as they were purchased out rightly. He said the involvement of the agency in the fair was to expose its products and services to entrepreneurs in line with its mandate. He said the mandate of the agency was to develop relevant technology and infrastructure and transfer the technical know-how to the entrepreneurs, captains of industry, foreign trade missions and emissaries. The NASENI boss said the agency had also concentrated on the development of local mineral resources available to enhance the growth of the economy. According to him, the agency is collaborating with the Raw Material Research and Development Council to harness and put into optimal use the natural resources in the country. He, however, said the agency faced the challenge of how to link up with entrepreneur, adding that Nigerian business owners were wary of innovations and careful at taking risk. Mr. Haruna also decried the inadequate funding and budget regime, which he said had not encouraged research works.According to him, the agency is counting on potential foreign investors to key into the dreams of the agency. Earlier, the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Kamila Maliki, expressed concern over the number of engineering graduates Nigeria universities turned out annually without jobs. Mr. Maliki said if the graduates were incorporated into the agenda of NASENI, it would go a long way to enhance infrastructure development. “It is a great concern to all engineers that as huge as the number of engineering graduates and engineering practitioners we have in this country, we are still not able to boast of sound engineering infrastructure. “It is important to work together with NASENI to help to revive the prosperity and the future of this country; we must discourage reliance on imported goods and be able to produce what we use in this country. “COREN and NASENI must be encouraged to work together, especially in the area of development of engineering infrastructure,” he said. premiumtimesng.com/business/146190-fg-approves-establishment-transformer-assembly-plant-nigeria-official.html 1 Like |

solomon111: you're a morøn. Some of you are cursed with fool.ishness! Why not go around the country looking for "Fashola" crested transformers? You see evidence of work accomplished in 2010 and you are here asking infuriatingly dum.b questions! Why not go visit the company in Lagos and see if they are in business or not? I know you can't because you are holed up in shaithole village, you know where! |

solomon111: you are a morøn,just like agbameta. Ode, see mumu retardeen! So you went all around to investigate where each transformer was manufactured in Nigeria? Why are you people like this stoopid? The company is still in business after 3 years and have they been living on your salary? Well, with power now liberalized and significant SW and Northern participation and success in the acquisition, all this company needs to do is to approach every of the companies with proposals and sign supply contracts! No more foreign transformers! They will be making money right there in Lagos, employing more people in Lagos and areas they have contracts, paying taxes and helping to develop Lagos and every parts of our land more while we also patronize them. Meanwhile, you will be dying and retrogressing in your hate! |

Sloan:idiott. Which single transformer is currently assembled in Nigeria? I challenge you to provide proof. We're talking of a visible and planned programme of the FG that should begin to yield dividends, and you're telling me stories of one phantom state govt project that will mostly likely not see the light of day from antecendence. Even agbameta has ran away leaving you to wallow in your stupiditty. Lol @"SW and Northern participation". Moronn. 1 Like |

solomon111: idiott. RURAL ELECTRIFICATION During the period under review, our Rural Electrification Department has continued to make steady progress in power distribution in the rural and semi-urban communities across the State through the construction of relief substations and provision of oil immersed distribution transformers. This has greatly enhanced the quality of life, socio-economic activities, as well as security of life & property of the rural populace. From June 2012 to date, the Ministry has been able to enhance the electricity supply network to various communities in all the 3 Senatorial Districts of Lagos State. Rural Electrification Projects were executed in various communities amongst which are Ojota Rural Electrification Project, Iledu Rural Electrification at Olorunda and Ode-Omi Rural Electrification. These projects are shown in Table I below. The second phase of the installation of the remaining 41 transformers installation that were executed through the intervention of members of the House of Assembly for their constituencies early last year were completed in November 2012. Out of the 132 transformers handed over to Honourable members through their intervention for CDAs in their constituencies in December 2012 were installed. Others were at various stages of completion. Rural Electrification of 9 riverine communities in Ojo L.G. were also completed and hooked to PHCN distribution line I am happy to inform you that Irede, Ikaare, Iyagbe, Irewe, Itogbesa, Okolundu, Ibode, Ponponku and Erekun communities are now enjoying power supply. However, I want to use this medium to appeal to our community members, particularly our Community Development Associations (CDAs), to partner with the State Government by providing security for State Government projects in their domains. They must protect their cables and transformers from theft so that the money being spent by the State Government in replacement could be used to provide more amenities for them. Furthermore, the State Government has resolved that henceforth any vandalized or stolen transformers would no more be replaced by the State. It would be the responsibility of such communities to replace transformers supplied by the State Government to them if stolen or vandalized willfully. http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/pagemenus.php?p=393&k=34 |
