Saudi Arabia Rejects Seat On UN Security Council by mrking3(m): 10:23am On Oct 18, 2013
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia is rejecting its
seat on the U.N. Security Council and says the 15-member
body is incapable of resolving world conflicts.
The move came just hours after the kingdom was elected as
one of the Council's 10 nonpermanent members.
In a statement carried on Friday by the official Saudi Press
Agency, the Saudi Foreign Ministry says the Council has
failed in its duties toward Syria.
It says this alleged failure enabled Syrian President Bashar
Assad's regime to perpetrate the killings of its people,
including with chemical weapons, without facing any
deterrents or punishment.
The Ministry also says the Council has not been able to
resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict over the past decades
and has failed to transform the Middle East into a zone free of
weapons of mass destruction.

So because a country pulled out of the football world cup because of its own peculiar situation, Nigeria or other countries should not celebrate their qualification for the same event despite the hardwork of the football team?

Nigeria has every reason to celebrate her winning a seat at the UN non-permanent security council. She worked and fought for it and deserves to celebrate her victory.

More over, if the stakes were not high, Saudi Arabia would not have made a show of pulling out. The pulling out itself was to send a strong signal of disenchantment with how certain situations have been handled. And the higher the stakes, the stronger the signal.

Nigeria can never reject any offer as long as it comes from the international community, if you read the statement of their voting, you'll understand that they (Nig) might have even lobbied for the seat. Because we celebrate mediocrity a lot, we'll even beg for any international offer at least it ll help the hypocritic Govt in power to score a cheap Political point that they are working and that Nigeria is progressing and being recognised by the international community. BTW, why is our Progress report always coming from the outside and not within or are Nigerians very dumb and daft that they can recognise a progressive Govt on their own when they see one?

nigerians are like goats. Wherever they herd moves they march without asking questions.
very childish mentality

so because Saudi Arabia doesn't want the seat Nigeria should be a shamed? Should we now stop celebrating because Saudi Arabia isn't celebrating? Senseless mentality.

Congratulations to my country for it's victory on the world stage! One step closer to a permanent seat!

So because of Syria, Saudi decided to get out of The United Nations Security Council.
We have to ask them why they are not complaining about the real owners of the oil in Saudi who are being maltreated by the barbaric saudi forces.
