Knowing the kind of open people Nigerians are, when it comes to appreciating other cultures, I have decided to open a thread dedicated to music from other countries. All for your hearing pleasures. First video is from Brazil, by a group called Tribalistas. They hail from the quasi Yoruba city of Salvador in Bahia, so there is some cultural connection I guess. That was got me interested in the first place. The three musicians, came together to record an album of sheer pop delight, that I believe transcends language barriers. If music is a universal language, this album is super fluent in it. This particular song is called 'Ja Sei Namorar'(I already know how to Love. . . . .) Polaris: But I can see the video na. . . . @topic next song is also from Brazil, by a lady called Daniela Mercury. She is also from the State of Bahia and she is more ostentatious about the Yoruba roots of most Bahian citizens. I always thought her songs have a tinge of the african if not Yoruba in them. This song never fails to please Nobre Vagabundo [flash=435,344] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qpt0bhiD9k&hl=en&fs=1"[/flash] |

This song by Habib Koite was yanked out of an obscure existence by no less than the Microsoft Coporation, when it was incoporated into its Vista Software. I had been listening to Koite a while before that and I was naturally pleased. Sounds better everytime I hear it. Polaris. . . Cool track. Although Shakira is not a name that would come to mind, when I discuss world music. It is easy to forget she is Colombian with all the English pop songs she has released. By the way the vibe has quite a few similarities with the song she did with Wycleff. Don't you think? |

The next two songs are from Ghana. I knw the Ghanians have been very innovative with their fusion of hiphop and highlife, but I think they are at their best when they stress the highlife bit as these two songs prove. Love these songs to bits. . .Nostalgia always dey wash over me King David- - - -- Tsi Obenke mi [flash=435,344] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYh-1iA-B4g&hl=en&fs=1"[/flash] Lucky Mensah- - - - -- - - - -Old School [flash=435,344] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpJvI99bgUA&hl=en&fs=1"[/flash] |

My next track is from a chap who had a lot of travails in his life. Folks were killed in Rwanda, but luckily he was able to snuggle off to Canada. Corneille- - - - - - Parce qu'on vient de loin [flash=435,344] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovclzg5veBc&hl=en&fs=1"[/flash] |

I don't think there is any instrument in the world to pull the heartstrings like the Kora, especially when the player is Toumani Diabate, the most well known Kora player in the world. [flash=435,344] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SVAPvnR0og&hl=en&fs=1"[/flash] |
