I'm considering signing up with the Australian defence force when I finish high school at the end of this year, what do you guy's reckon of this position

Pay is AUD$25,000 per year (around N2500000) during training (living on base) and after training (42 weeks I beleive) AUD$48,000 per year (N4800000) with a four year commitment.

So what do you guy's think of that job?

As a Communications and Information Systems Controller (CISCON) you will be involved in the management of computerised information systems and operation of communications systems which support the whole of the Defence Force.

The systems include Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), whilst the communications systems include both secure and non-secure voice, data, video and message services over all mediums. CISCONs provide communications and information systems support to deployed forces, higher commands and national authorities. In addition, they provide support to the administrative and logistic functions for the Air Force and some areas of the ADF.

Training is initially provided in basic or core CISCON areas of employment with further training to enhance skills for employment in specialised areas. A Communications and Information Systems Controller may be responsible for:
* Information and Communication Technology Support - involving planning, co-ordinating, providing software and computer networks support.
* Strategic Communications Support - involving the processing of messages and the provision of other secure communications services.
* Air Communications - involving the operation of HF/VHF/UHF radio communications to deployed Air Force, Navy, and Army units.
* Custodial duties - involving the safe keeping and managing of classified matter.
* Trade Training - experienced Sergeants and above are involved in the delivery of training to other CISCONs.
* Tactical Communications - involving the operation of communications facilities in a tactical environment.

I'm going to go and see the careers advisor at school and see if I can get some more information about general things in the defence force.

I know that the local base (after the first 10 weeks of generic training) has a free gym and stuff like that but I want to know what other perks there are as well :-)

It's not self-defense. It's national defence. Defending others by killing the bad guys. Have fun!

This type of position rarely gets you posted outside of australia, the 10 week training is near adeliade (about 1500km from here) but the 32 week training is about 20km away from here.
