Interstate Electric will officially and physically takeover the management of Enugu Distribution (Disco) PHCN successor company on the first of November.

The announcement was made today on a weekly local radio programme sponsored by Enugu Disco PHCN. The presenters of the programme made it clear that from next week onwards, a new team from Interstate will run the show. It is clearly a new dawn in the electricity sector.

Power Sector Reforms: FG Hands over Port Harcourt Disco to New Owners

Hope of better electricity supply to Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states has been rekindled as the Federal Government gets set to hand over the Port Harcourt Distribution Company (PHED) to its new owners and operators, 4Power Consortium Limited.

A statement issued by the company and signed by its Administrative Secretary, Precious Wokocha, the company said the Federal Government would formally hand over the distribution company to them tomorrow.

The statement said the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Power, Dr. Godknows Igali, would perform the ceremony on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Why not give it to foreign investors? As long as electricity is concerned, handing ownerships to Nigerian investors is akin to handing back to PHCN.

The privatisation process was not done by dumb people. It was designed in such away that even if you have all the money in the whole you cannot succeed in buying any of the company without incorporating into your organisation, known, tested and trusted power companies (usually foreign). Interstate Electric has a partner which is a foreign reputable power company.

If so, that will be good news

Sincere 9gerian:

Interstate Electrics (IE), which won the bid for the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, DISCo, is said to have completed the payment of the 75 percent balance for the electricity firm.

The consortium incorporated as a vehicle for the purpose of acquiring and operating Electricity Distribution Companies in Nigeria emerged the preferred bidder for the Enugu DISCO after a rigorous bidding process in the sale of PHCN in 2012, with an Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC & C) loss reduction proposal of 20.83%.

It comprises of Chrome Consortium Energy Nigeria Limited, Powerhouse International Limited, and Metropolitan Electricity Authority, and parades a competent team of electricity infrastructure engineers, owners/operators of electricity power distribution companies, upstream and downstream oil operators and empowerment partners, with a collective global experience of over 80 years.

The consortium’s technical partner, Metropolitan Electricity Authority of Thailand (MEA) with over 50 years experience is responsible for the distribution and sales of electricity to users in Bangkok and metropolitan vicinities, including Nonthaburi and Samutprakarn provinces. MEA’s distribution area covers 3,195 square kilometers divided into 14 districts with a population of about eight million and energy sales of 44,714 GWH of electricity.

on a more serious note i hope there would be no tariff increase after these companies take over?

That is why there is NERC (National Electricity Regulatory Commission). It is NERC that will determine what the consumer pays. None of the private companies have the right to arbitrarily increase fees.
