LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Airport Police have confirmed an incident Thursday prompted the evacuation of a terminal at the airport.

The Los Angeles Police Department tweeted that "LAPD is now on TACTICAL ALERT due to a major incident." Moments later LAPD tweeted that "The Citywide Tactical Alert is being scaled down to West Bureau only."

CNN is reporting that the airport is shut down: no flights taking off and no flights coming in.
Re: Shooting At LAX (los Angeles International Airport) by Nobody: 6:15pm On Nov 01, 2013
A former FBI agent on CNN is worried that there may be one more than one shooter. A TSA officer was covered in blood when exiting the terminal 3.

This is absolutely crazy
Re: Shooting At LAX (los Angeles International Airport) by Nobody: 6:19pm On Nov 01, 2013
The suspected shooter was wearing camouflage, and was apparently targeting TSA agents.
Already, a box of ammunition has been found in the area.

If there are multiple, that will be terrible considering the size of that airport.

Re: Shooting At LAX (los Angeles International Airport) by Nobody: 6:21pm On Nov 01, 2013
It's baffling how the shooter got access to the airside of the terminal

Exactly. It could look like a well-coordinated attack.

Off-topic but I've been marveling at the triage they've set up on the highway. RED tarp for severe injuries, YELLOW tarp for moderate, and GREEN for mild. I never would've guessed the colors had meaning.

Hmmm. They didn't mention anything about security breaches yet.
Re: Shooting At LAX (los Angeles International Airport) by Nobody: 6:29pm On Nov 01, 2013
The LAPD are presently reviewing the airport's CCTVs.
The bomb squad was caught in traffic.
The airport remains closed for now.

Yeah, the shooter only shot the TSA agent he couldn't breach the airside.

That's proper organization for you.

The gunman is now reported to be injured.

Yep!

Planes are moving now. If they're wrapping things up, then I must say, this was extremely fast compared to other shootings.

Definitely good news. But the roads leading to the airport are absolutely in gridlock. The traffic is almost at a halt

Good news indeed.

Why does it seem like every month there's a big shooting accident.
Re: Shooting At LAX (los Angeles International Airport) by Nobody: 7:42pm On Nov 01, 2013
- 1 TSA officer was shot and killed. 10 shots were fired by both the gunman and law enforcement officers.
-The gunman acted alone.
-Due to the fact that a federal officer (TSA officer) was killed, the gunman will face federal homicide charges.

This, and also when we start taking mental health seriously again. Mental health facilities are not well funded, and as a result, they either flood the emergency departments of hospitals or are left to roam about, sometimes with weapons.

Because there pretty much is a big shooting that frequently. There was a school shooting in Nevada like two weeks ago.

Ok.
Why would such a young man waste his life like that?
Re: Shooting At LAX (los Angeles International Airport) by isalegan2: 10:07pm On Nov 01, 2013
Wow! This should have been on the front page, considering how delays at LAX would affect flight passengers all over the world. Though news about shootings here happens every other day now. undecided
Re: Shooting At LAX (los Angeles International Airport) by Nobody: 10:35pm On Nov 01, 2013
The gunman breached the LAX terminal 3 airside; he was only stopped by an armed policeman near the Burger King restaurant.
If the suspect had disabled that officer, he would have only be a few yards away from an open cockpit..Very scary stuff.
Re: Shooting At LAX (los Angeles International Airport) by Nobody: 11:26pm On Nov 01, 2013
The gunman is Paul Ciancia.

Some passengers were held up in the planes for up to 5 hours!!
Re: Shooting At LAX (los Angeles International Airport) by Nobody: 12:12am On Nov 02, 2013
He breached? Or he shot at TSA and then got through?

Today's fatality is the first TSA fatality since the administration was created.
